Coon Hunting Farmers

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COON HUNTING REALLY. NOW THAT HARVEST HAS BEGUN I WAS WONDERING HOW EVERYBODYS CROPS ARE IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. AROUND HERE IT HAS BEEN SO DRY ALL SUMMER THE CROPS ARE TERRIBLE. GLAD I QUIT 4 YEARS AGO AND WENT TO STRICTLY CATTLE. HOPE EVERYONE HAS GOOD CROPS AND A SAFE HARVEST AND BRING ON COON SEASON.

Boy I sure didn't get many of them good cornfield races this year. It seems like the corn went from not quite milky to dried up and nasty. After them first big rains around Labor Day it just looked awful up here.

the crops are great here in illinois.

here in southern ky the corn is pretty good. tobacco looks good but going to weigh light way to much rain. and my main cash crop alfalfa really hurt this year because of all the rain. i,ve always heard the older farmers say that a dry year will worry a farmer to death and a wet year will starve him. but i,m not complaning because the our lord knows best. if it was left up to me to control the weather i would have everything so messed up it couldnt be fixed.

HEY CHAD ARE YOU GETTING THE PUP THIS WEEKEND? WE WERE HUNTING AROUND A CORNFIELD TONIGHT THAT THE FARMER WAS JUST SHUTING DOWN FOR THE NIGHT. HE SAID WHAT HE PICKED TODAY WAS MAKING 45 BUSHELS. THAT'S ALONG WAY FROM THE 100 TO 125 IT NORMALLY MAKES. HE SAID BETWEEN THAT AND LOW PRICES HE HAD ABOUT HAD ENOUGH. HOPE HE DOESN'T QUIT BECAUSE I'VE SURE TREED ALOT OF COONS AROUND THE PLACES HE FARMS.

Boy that would make a guy want to quit I reckon. Walt Koshko is gonna bring the pup back from the futurity. Thanks for offering to bring him back from the World hunt, but he should be here Sat. or Sun. depending on how they do at the hunt.

Corn was good in West TN this year! Some of the farmers around here got 170-190 bushels IF tehy fertilized good!!!!!

Oh, c'mon, Dave, 45 bu. corn is a bumper crop down there in those hills and rocks, lol.

It has been one of the worst years for crops since 1980, that I remember. I quit trying to make a living at it about 5 years after that and haven't regretted it. I got 22 acres of beans, put in by a neighbor, on my property and this is one year I'm glad I'm getting cash rent, not shares. These beans were planted in early May and still are barely knee high. I'm thinking 10 bu.?

Heard you folks had a very dry year out there. Here in NY we got a late start as so wet but been an excellent year. They have been chopping corn now for silos for about two weeks. The higher ground did well, some lower spots were stunted due to so much rain where water sat. I don't farm but friends do, glad to see a lot of corn grown this yr, spillage/waste helps feed deer and turkey. Has some good coon chases in the corn. Good luck!

I live in 10 miles outside of Owen Sound, Ontario. This is where we have the Canadian Autumn Open the week end after Autumn Oaks. You all should visit us, it is held in a beautiful park and camp ground, in the middle of the city.
Plenty of corn and the scores are usually over 1000+
The coons are big ( around 30 to 40 pounds) this year a boy from Kentucky had his hound catch one in the corn and got him beat up pretty bad, he took him out of the hunt and he was leading at the time, just got scared.
I farm beef cattle, we had a bumper crop of hay but Mad Cow has killed the prices!!!
We try to be good hosts, we like visitors.

ERNIE I AM ALSO IN THE CATTLE BUSINESS. SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE MAD COW SCARE UP THERE. I KNOW IT IS REALLY PUTTING THE HURT ON ALOT OF YOU GUYS. I HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT AND I WOULDN'T WISH THE BAD TIMES YOU ARE GOING THROUGH ON ANYONE. GOOD LUCK AND THE HUNTING SURE SOUNDS GOOD UP YOUR WAY.
