using 12 gauge around young dogs and pups

I want all of your opinion on using a 12 gauge to get the coons to look down around young dogs or pups. It's the first time the dogs have been exposed to gun fire. My opinion is that it could be done around older broke dogs that are coondogs. But around a young pup that are just getting their times in the woods the shotgun should be lay off. Thanks.

I have heard of bird dog trainers using a 20 gauge around young dogs b/c they are actually easier on the dogs ears than a 22. I don't know for sure how true this is. IMO i wouldn't use a 12 gauge, unless the dog was tied back or in a kennel and the shooter was a good distance away. And then i would still think twice about it.

i always start out young pups using medal feed pans,,,,,bangin them on the kennel floor before i put in the food,,,, bang bang bang.,,agin the side of the pen. medal on medal......even run the lawn mower rite by then pen,,,,get them use to loud noise...... then progress to the 22.....used to use a gun that shot 22 shorts.....then increase,,,,,,, before long i could shoot the 30-06 over the back fence ....no worries......

I have 2 duck blinds close to my house. And then, I am always blasting out squirrels to my squirrel dogs. Shot guns never have hurt my hound pups. A lot of it is in the breeding.
