tracking wide off drag line

I have a 5 month old bluetick that tracks way off to the side of the drag. He runs that tell the trail turns then he comes back to the trail re groups and continues off the trail and to the tree with the drag in it. Is there a problem down to road with his way of tracking.

sounds to me that he is winding the track, there is nothing wrong with it as long as he picks the right tree.

How much Scent are you using on the Drag ???

It only takes a few Drops on each side ..

Too Much Scent creates a Very wide and blowing trail ..

If I only need a couple drops I defintly spray each side a few times to many. I only do one drag a day and spray it each time

Have you ever Poured Gas on a Brush Pile then wait a Min. to light it ???

Scent Spreads the exact same way .. The scent molecules spread in a vapor pools,, National Geograph had a Great Artical on Scent and Hounds ..

I'l look for it.

I frequently hunt in winter with snow on the ground. My dogs run a few yards down wind of tracks quite often.
In fact, I prefer a heads up drifting track running to catch hound over the dogs that stay on line.
