Battling ticks???

Ticks were horrible in this area this year. And with this mild winter they are only getting worse. A ten minute walk to a dog will put about 20 or 30 ticks on you.

What do you guys use to battle ticks?? Do any repellents work? Deet doesn't seem to do anything.

Take a garlic pill once a day. Learned it from an old timer and he swore by it.

Ticks/fleas

Go to your local feed or chemical store and get some 30% permetherin mix it up in a spray bottle. Full strength won't hurt the dogs you'll just be wasting it. IT WILL KILL CATS THOUGH!
keep it in your truck and spray a little on your clothes when you hunt. Ticks will run from you.I had a very bad tick problem this summer I mean like thousands on the dogs. I used this and they were all gone or dead in 3 days, I sprayed the pens with it and haven't seen a tick or flea in a year now! Google this chemical on the net. Its just a concentrate of the flea and tick drops for dogs but alot cheaper and in bulk containers $30.00 for a quart. a quart will last years!

I'm not a chemical type of person. Actually I'm going to finish up my Doctor Degree in the Veterinary field in Naturopathy.
I've used Apple Cider Vinegar, mix it 50/50 with water and spray it directly on your dogs. I also add 1 tablespoon ACV to my dog's water. This helps a lot. Bed them down in Cedar chips, and if things get too bad some powdered Sulphur would be another option.
Hope that helps some.
I think we are going to have a HORRIBLE summer due to ticks and fleas since it didn't get cold enough to kill them.
Take care,
Jeremy Mollett

dont know if it works but i was told once that if your dog drinks some viniger they wont get ticks. i never tried it my self but who knows maybe it works. i just use the drops on them and it works fine. has for my self i dont think ticks like me cause i never had one on me.

I'd just quit and leave all our local coon to me!!!! Actually, there might be something to the apple cider vinegar. I used it about a month and a half ago in the dogs water for what might have been a potential kennel cough bout. I know it works wonders for that. I haven't had a tick since and I hunt the same woods as you. I might start putting it in the dogs' water daily. I'll be starting the ivermec injections shortly for heart worm issues and I know that helps too.

I use Apple Cider Vinegar regularly on my dogs and in their water.
Just to make a quick comment about kennel cough, Yes ACV works!
But you know what works better?
1 tablespoon Honey, 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice to 1 gallon of water.
Usually cures it overnight. Those are the secret's vet's don't want you to know because they want you to come in and get $50 worth of Antibiotics, $50 worth of Steroids, Office Call, exam, etc....
When Honey $3 and lemon juice $2 can cure it.
Best of luck,

Steffan, I use Armour flea and tick which I bought at Walmart for $25.00 and lasts three months..I also give my hounds a garlic pill every day and that certainly helps..When I hunt I spray myself Deep Wood mosquito relellant and that seems to keep the ticks off..Believe when I tell you we have plenty of deer and brown ticks year round..Good luck.

Ticks

In my area, we have lots of ticks, however, I or my dogs seldom get one. For me, I use REPEL permanone for my clothing and Hip boots. For my dogs, I spray them about every 10 days or so with Adam's Spray. It works!

Look for a collar that contains Amitraz as the activie ingredient. Amitraz will drop off and kill ticks its pretty specific for ticks and mites so it wont do a thing to a flea.

Is the vinegar killing the fleas also, or just ticks
