Coon Gal Bladder

I went hunting the other night and my dog treed two lay-up coons. When we got back to the truck, one of the hunters told me that the best dogs they ever had, he and his father took the coon's gal bladder and bursted it on the dogs nose and it made them great dogs. After listening to this, and seeing that my dog treed two lay-ups that his dog could not even smell, I figured he was trying to get me to mess my dog up? Have any of you old timers ever heard such a thing or was my inclination spot on?

Old Timey:
A dog that won't come-pee in his feed everday till he does.
Dog leaves tree - crunch up insect shell you find stuck on side of tree and put in feed to make him stick.
Feeding a dog in a cast iron pot will give a dog Black Tongue. What is Black tongue and is it bad?? Sounds like was the way he said it.
