Pine Ridge Tuff ?

Anyone hunt with him ? What was he like when he was younger ? Mouth ? Treeing style ? etc.

I hunted with him once a few years ago before we bred to him. It was a rough night of hunting but I liked everything about him.
I co-own a male out of him that is the most enjoyable male dog I've ever hunted or hunted with.
He is owned by James "Shack" McCollugh and Zach Moon of Hayti MO.
Guys like JR Browder in IL, Deron Shuler in NC, and John Gossett in IN can tell you almost everything you want to know about them.
Tuff was born at John's place and he started Tuff. Deron Shuler owned him for a time and Tuff has stayed at JR's for a bit and JR has bred to him a couple of times.
I have numbers for John and JR if you need to talk to them.

Tuff has a good carrying mouth that isn't going to wow you at first impression but walk behind him for a night and you'll appreciate how well it carries. Without looking at a Garmin he'll be twice the distance you'd guess him to be. My male out of him as a very similar style of mouth. No one ever says, "He's sure a loud, nice tree dog" but I can't tell you how many times I've heard guys on casts say "I never would have guessed he was this far".

He trees just like his daddy Wild Casey. Probably around 70-80 barks per minute, 4 feet on the ground at the base of the tree. I seen him tree by himself, with another male, with young dogs climbing all over and with a no nonsense female and Tuff treed the same way with all of them.

thankyou for your time and effort , I have a young female out of him . She sure is a nice one and i wonder if she's like him or not . She seems to be very good about having a coon and wants to be by herself but she will also cover . I've raised her by herself and she does kinda have a problem with the Alpha issues around other females but if given a few seconds she will behave and get along , Thankyou

The litter we raised off my Dad's Grand Nite was pretty mediocre I guess. Both males were bought and sold at least twice before they were two. Both showed some promise but not sure either ever really got a fair shake. Not sure what happened to either of them.
1 female was running and treeing some but was culled due to some behavioral issues and personality traits. The personality traits came from her mother.
Another female was supposed to be lighting the world on fire at 7 months old and the kid turned down $2500 for her and then somehow he and the dog fell off the face of the earth.
The female we had had some real good things going for her but had a couple traits we just couldn't stand. She was naturally independent as a pup. Accurate. She was treed by herself more than with company. Not afraid of the dark, and would get gone all by her lonesome. Had a big lion roar locate and was a solid tree dog. Above average mouth. No off game or aggression issues. The bad was she had absolutely no compass, you could cut her loose in the section you wanted to hunt with the terrain, wind and everything else in her favor and she'd bust out the side and get gone in a hurry. We'd find her treed somewhere with a coon. She'd put us in some strange country sometimes. She had absolutely terrible kennel manners. Quiet, but chewed up everything and didn't sit still for more than 30 seconds. We sold her and as far as I know she couldn't be bought. The guy that has her loves her to death.

We got Nite Ch AKC Grand Nite Ch Pine Ridge Wild Ox from JR Browder. Ox is Thunder's Wild Clyde, Lone Pine Dewey, and Logan's Wild Clover on the bottom. He's not perfect but I like almost everything about him. Prefers to be by himself but will cover. Stays in the pocket unless he needs to. Good mouth with a tree mouth you can hear forever. No male dog behavioral issues. Good in the kennel. He jacks the tree and chews some and it gets worse in the heat. Doesn't seem to handle the heat well. The last 2 years he's treed a pile of coon in the snow and ice on nights when most hunters wouldn't even bother going out. We've got a pair of pups off him we're slowly messing with. Others in the litter are already running and treeing.

In the few Tuff pups I've been around, they all had above average mouths and were naturally independent.

Best of luck with your pups . Thanks for talking about Tuff , I knew you had hunted with him as the only picture i've seen of him had you in it . I know that you are a true clover bred fan as am i . I now have 2 females and they are both Clover bred I like them . I like how easy they are to start and their tracking . I got sold on them years ago with a female out of Wild Quick and Frasiers molly she was a daughter of Dewey . And at the time thought of as one of the best in the country . I also had a direct Daughter of Dewy and she was a nice female with a big male dog mouth , tree dog . I wish more people would bred to Tuff as i think he has alot to offer . I know mine has been a natural since day one and also a part of the family . Good hunting

Lets hear about those Tuff Dogs !!!!!

Posted by Q.Montague on 11-30-2011 11:26 PM:

Mighty Whitey TuffxHarryFemale

Whitey is 15 months old and will get it done. He is a hard intense treedog that started quick. I live close to Fisk, Missouri and bought my dog from Shack at 4 months. He is super smart and started fast. He has a wild sounding mouth and a bellyrubbin', everybreath treedog. He'll grab a slick but he'll also fall treed with that yo-yo-yo- out of nowhere and have a coon. Still very much a pup that has been hunted all by himself since 10 months old. He'll win when he's finished. He's been my project for awhile now and he just keeps getting better. One of those dogs you just can't not like. Hope you guys are treeing them coons and having a good time. Quintin

Tuff

I have a female off of Pine Ridge Tuff and a Clover daughter. She is three. Good loud horn type mouth. I hunt her alone most of the time, but she will hunt and tree with anything. Very good nose, strikes tracks as she comes to them. Just starting to rig this season and is getting very good at it.

Tuff was a very nice young dog. He had more natural hunting ability than any young dog I have ever seen. He made you want to hunt. He was a dead loner. Tight on the ground and a one bark tree dog. He was high maintenance. Hunt him hard and he couldnt be beat. Set him up and he couldnt win. He was not for the weak at heart. Smart, good natured, and very humble to his owner. He would take you to places that you have never been on hunting ground that you have hunted all your life. He was always setting in the country treed. I would take one more just like him anytime.
