garmin trouble please help

My garmin quit working last night My handheld wouldnt pick up my collars but they worked on my buddys handheld The little icon that is supposed to flash every 5 seconds when it gets a signal from the collars wasnt flashing
I also noticed that my collars were flashing 3 times instead of two
What could be going on?

Triple flash means your collar has GPS signal. So it must be your hand held. Make sure you are updated.

I would take the batteries out and put them back in and check the antena. It may had gotten screwed on to tight. That is pretty common.

I am new to this garmin stuff and do not have a book (bought mine used) How do I update?
What about the people on here that say they never have to update and their system works fine?

I think it depends on what update you have. The last couple updates should have changed it to a triple blink.

How To Update Your Garmin

What we are going to want to do first is update the software on the unit. Often times this will correct any direction and range issues you are having.

To update your unit's software, please follow the instruction's below. The latest software update for your unit will correct this issue.

1. Please go to the WebUpdater webpage by clicking on the following link: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=931.

2. You will see a link labeled Download, please click on it.

3. You will be asked if you want to Run or Save the file, please click Run.

4. After the file downloads, you may receive a security warning; if you do, please click Run.

5. Please select your setup language and click Next (the following instructions are based on the English selection).

6. You will see a new window; please click Next.

7. A license agreement will appear; please agree to the terms and then click Next.

8. You will see the destination folder, please click Next.

9. Click Install; the WebUpdater installation will begin.

10. After the installation, please ensure that there is a checkmark next to Yes, I want to launch WebUpdater now and then click Finish.

11. The WebUpdater program will launch - again, please ensure that your unit is connected to the computer and turned on.

12. Click Next; you will then be prompted to select your GPS. Please select USB Device and then click Next.

13. A new window will appear with information about the update for your unit, please click Next.

14. A new license agreement will appear, please click that you agree and then click Next.

15. The unit's internal operating system/software (sometimes called "firmware") will then be updated.

16. Once the download is complete, please click Finish.

17. Please feel free to disconnect the unit; it is ready to use.

The collar can be a little tricky to update, if you need some help just holler....

May sound like I am being a smart a** but first make sure you haven't turned tracking off. If tracking is on delete the collars and add them back. Had a buddy's do this a while back and deleting and re adding fixed the problem.

I used the master reset then updated the handheld and the collars
It seems to be working just fine again I am going to go drive down the road and test

Hung the collars up in my yard and drove down the road
My dc-30 lost communication at .94 mile and my dc-40 lost at 1.53 mile I am happy with this

If you have an Astro 320 and DC 40 collar this is the satelite sinsnals

Single Blink DC 40 is searching for satelite signal
Double Blink DC 40 has acquired satelite signals
Triple Blink DC 40 is tracking seven or more satelites
(best GPS performance).

This information is in the Astro 320 Quick Start Manual.

quick question

first time im about to try this..hadnt had any trouble out of my system( astro 220 and dc 30), but juswant to update it... the package that my garmin usb cable came in has a yellow tag in it, and says to install software from cd before using, so that all drivers will be avalible...whats this.. and do i have to do it...? thanx for any help guys

The only software I installed was the web updater.... just click on the link, follow the instructions and you will be fine.

hey BW.. ok so i just updated the 220 handheld, clicked the link and just followed the directions from there..thanx...i want to update the collar as well( dc 30) can you give any tips on how to do it..never did it..and i seen where you said it could be a little tricky..so want to make sure i do it right...??

To update collar
Plug handheld into computer and be on the web updater page

Turn collar on

Push DOG

Select the collar you want to Update and hit enter

It should show that collars INFO press menu

Go to UPGRADE DOG UNIT

Now go thru the upgrade steps again on the computer

Making sure the device found is your collar
