Electrical Question

If a electric motor is rated for 220/440 can it be wired for 220 only and not 3 phase ????

there should be a metal tag on motor, that will tell you your phase, and if it is a 3 phase then it will only work w/3 phase

A three phase motor can be run on 2 prase power with the use of a phase inverter, but they are expensive.

My father-n-law has a industrial grinder and meat saw he was wanting to hook up on the back of the store. I was afraid it was only gonna be able to work on 3 phase but thought I would double check..
I think it would be best to sell them, both are in very good condition. I wonder what they would be worth... I'll have to check the names again, both came from the same manufacturer...

You can buy small freq drives that will run 3 phase motors on single phase. allen bradley makes them. i have seen off brand ones for under 200 bucks for small motors. how big is the motor.

How does a VSD run a 3 phase motor on single phase? It seems to me that it would trip on Current Imbalance. The most economical way to go is just replace the motor with a single phase unit.
