To All You Folk That Said You Would Help Us
it is so hard reading books and learning from everyone as you go along. as some know, i have been doing this since skeet was 4 months old. he has talent. god gave him that and a love for his mom and thank god for that again.
we have hunted ; swamps, thickets, pines, big woods, HILLS, and much more to come i am sure. i have fished this dog out of swollen rivers off of timber and ponds that werent fit for a grub.
DO YOU KNOW WHERE WE WERE TONIGHT????????? just behind the house cause WE had to run.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO SCARED. have you ever had a dog that lit up a track through a small woods and then cut over skirting a woodline and a field???? many of you say yes. well, DID YOU HAVE ONE THAT HAD A SPOTLIGHT ON THEM?????????? i only had a 2 D cell battery flashlight and started waving it madly yelling COONHUNTER, COONHUNTER. the light went off and then back on again. that stupid flashlight went off and i had to shake it and it came back on as i yelled. that dog treed. my skeet treed. and ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS "OH MY GOD, YOU ARE RED AND WHITE."
i thank the god murphy is black with a white muzzle. i dont know the length of time where they started to drive off, but i swear it was the longest minutes of my life.
i dont have a camera anymore nor a cell that will get reception. i dont have satellite computer nor digital anything.
have any of you sat down on a rock and put your head in your lap because you thought you really screwed up ???
ALL I HAVE IS A COONDAWG. i dont have the huge mountains nor the rough terrain of gators and swamp.
that dog stuck to his tree. i can be no prouder at this moment and anybody else that said they would help can kiss my ever livin bruised butt.
i am not alone, i have skeet.
you want points and numbers, read them from skeet in the spring.
my father stopped by this evening before i ran the boys. he said, "he is still a pup", meaning skeet. he is 18 months old. everyone better think again when they see skeet when he is over 2.
this boy and me are running on his talent, and by the skirt of "my pants". so be it.
i have never been so scared. never.

In
Pa. we have tons of deer spotters at night, also alot of predator callers... Dogs get shot by deer jacklighters or by predator callers thinking they are yotes.... I KNOW, who would mistake a hound for a deer or a yote... They see eyes they shoot....That is what Kell is eluding to in her post....

I thought it was a highway. I have three trained dogs and was thinking about selling one till I lost one for a few days. If that one stayed lost and I sold one that would just leave me with one. I would be scared to turn my last one loose too. An old coonhunter friend told me that coondogs were like girlfriends. If you like them you better keep a penfull, one might get stole, another gator ate or run over, and some just run off.
People are CRAZY! Some hill jack shot my horse, YES A HORSE, in the hind flank with a bow n arrow 2 yrs ago! They don't double check what there shooting first! I can't stand a spotlighter!!!! Thank goodness the DNR around here has gotten better at driving these back roads.

Sounds like she may have been a little shook up when she posted this. Had no idea what she was talking about. thanks for clearing it up.

You can't fix STUPID!
It's a woman thing, you haveta read between the lines.
1. PA Deer season starts tomorrow, we have idiots out there with spotlights looking for deer to shoot and they don't have to be in season to do so or even in daylight. Brown=down! Add to that a few beers into each spotlighter and you now have a few 'jacklighters' eager to shoot anything that move or they feel is 'running a deer' and you have have 'Bang' dead dog.
2. She was trying to tell them with her flashligh waving in the air that they were 'coonhunting' dogs, not just plain ole dogs running a deer. Also they may feel that this dog is 'scaring' their soon to be prize deer away, idiots are like that, can't tell them a thing!
3. She got very lucky and the 'spotter/jacklighter' moved on and didn't shoot her dog. She is so grateful she set down and gave a 'Thank You God' and gave into a few 'womanly fuzzy warm' feelings, we do that once in a while.
4. She is proud of her dog and rightly so, she was just telling us all so....can't any of you men read 'woman language'?

Well you sound mad becouse people haven't helped you enough. A woman is a little harder to help than most with jellous wives at home most men couldn't help you. I would if I was closer. The one thing I can help you with is some advise.
Allways have the brightest, longest lasting light on the market. You can allways turn one down but if you need more and don't have it you would pay the extra money for just that one time.
If you hunt by yourself they can be a distress signel that will save your life or your dogs. In this case it would be a lot harder to get a shot at a dog with a light in your eyes. I would take my light over all my other equipment.
You have some gripe about them but it is people with less bright lights. I will take looking for the coon over looking for the eyes any day. If they don't look on the way into the tree I have better luck finding the body.

Here in Michigan you cant shine during November and no shining after 11 pm the rest of the time. There are a few exceptions such as coon treed.

when you're in the dark, the thing you need most is light. i always carry extra lights and extra batteries. i have my battle light, it's a 21v led, a stanley 5 watt spotlight, a 2AA cell led pin light that i keep in my pants pocket, another 2AA led pen llight in my backpack with extra batteries and my hat is one of those with the little led lights in the bill.
