Clover bred?

anybpdy tell me a some about clover bred dogs? any way they hunt, how old is the line? and any other info

I cant believe nobody has answered you yet.Im no Clover expert but Ive owned a few myself and have hunted with several.I had one out of Logans Wild Clover and another out of Stylish Clover. The ones Ive seen and had were hard hunters, they would hunt by themselves, get deep,Independent coondogs that started early. They were above average track dogs and were excellent tree dogs. The biggest fault I have with Clover dogs is they have to be the trashiest line of dogs Ive ever hunted and are hard to break.I wore out a tri-tronics trying to brake mine. You take the number of Deer,Red and Gray Fox,Opossum and other varmint we have versus the number of Coon we have, not a good place for a Clover bred dog to be.

I guess it depends on what 'Clover' dog they are out of because I have very little trouble with trash. The ones I have had usually break themselves by 2 years old.

I've never had any trash problems out of any of mine either.. All of mine have been trash free from the factory!

junk

I have hunted with a lot of Clover blood in my 45 years of hunting but most recently dogs like Card Nightmare Buddy Pearl just to mention a few. I find that most of hte young dogs that run jusk is because whoever is hunting them has junk running dogs that they are training them with. Keep a pup with a good hound and if it is in him/her, it will not run junk either.

I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE OF TRASH RUNNING WITH MR LOGAN'S LINE OF CLOVER DOGS AND I HAVE HAD MY FAIR SHARE OF THEM. BY FAR THE BEST LINE OF HOUNDS I HAVE EVER HAD MY HANDS ON...

Now that we know that Clover hounds are not trashy and I also now know why mine were Ill tell you with my 167 years of coonhunting experience how they are bred.Dogs like,Stylish clover,Tony,s Wild Clover and Wessel,s Wild Casey were all out of Logans Wild clover.I think Casey and Tony,s Clover were littermates but not for sure.Wild Clover was out Hardwood Bozo and Logans Female Julie.Julie was out Mears Finley river Dan and Magill Lone Pine Jill.Well Lone Pine Jill was bred to River bend Flag and a female out of that litter named Logans Wild Jeanie was bred to Wild clover thus producing Casey and Tony Wild Clover. One more thing to add Bozo was out of the original Ball,s Hickory Nut Harry Dog.

clover

Mr. Whordel
I think I speak for us all on here and wish we all could walk behind hounds for 167 years but thats not possible ( yet lol)
the gentleman who started the thred asked about the clover line you stated you had some that was junky and very possible there are junky ones in every line the other gentleman and myself just have a diffrent opinion that they are not prone to be a trasy line of hounds.

I know you guys stud and hunt those ol clover hounds that goes back to Casey and I havn't heard nothing but good things about them.I was telling my experience I had with them.Dogs being trashy isn't a bad thing, gives a little more drive to em,some are just harder to break than others. If being trashy is all I had to say bad about the Clover hounds then I would take that as a complicate.Oh the 167 years,I was being a little sarcastic lol.

Young lady that started the thread lol r clover hounds pretty smart? Whats some more bigger named dogs out of the line?

Posted by plybon11 on 11-15-2011 02:35 AM:

And what r they like on tree? Do they lean more towards real open or silent I know each dog is different but I've heard people cld tell wha a dog is out of by just there bark.

Posted by on 11-15-2011 03:23 AM:

In my experience with Clover, which mainly comes from Wild Casey dogs, is that they are some of the most naturally straight dogs out there. Even those who might give junk a test drive are usually very easily broke.
In my limited experience with Whitey dogs, they seem to be a little more "gamey" but I wouldn't consider them trashy.
Beyond that, I think you can find anything you want to know about Clover by using the "search" feature. There have been several threads over the last few years regarding Clover dogs.

clover hounds

Wild CArd and his offspring have been very accurate and independant. They go alone and prefer to be off to themselves but will hunt well with other dogs. I just haven't seen a problem with them running trash or slick treeing. I am sure if you look long enough you will find faults in every breed. I have never seen a perfict hound but I do know the difference between a top coon hound and one that will tree a coon. Good luck to all you hunters and just follow the kind of hound you like because your the one that feeds them.

Been around 4 clover dogs, all of them nice. The ones I have been around were heavy bred on Stylish Clover, one of them had a shot of Wild Card. 3 Have been out of Great White Shark and the other is out of White Trash.

The two of them I have owned I have not had any trash problems to speak of. The other two I don't own but did not see trash problems when I hunted with them.

As far as hunting style they tend to be dogs that hunt better and perform better the colder and nastier the weather gets. Cold, cold nose track dogs that will run tracks on the snow like they are tied to the coon. Come on tree with several locates and into a steady chop or short bawl chop combo. Big bawl mouth track dogs. Independent when they need to be, not afraid to be by themselves, some actually prefer it. Will go deep if need be, can be a pain if the coon aren't moving because they will get deep to get treed. Not a check back in after a few minutes type of bloodline from what I have seen.

The one fault that I have noticed in this line is a lot of them tend to be noisy in the kennel. I've currently got one that I can not in any way break from kennel barking. Nice dog in the woods but likes to bark in the kennel more than I like.

As far as walker dogs go this is my favorite line of dogs because of the tracking ability, big mouths, and ability to show me a coon on the outside with snow on the ground in the wintertime.

I love clover dogs....they have my most favorite traits...wide hunters, big mouthed, independent and accurate.....but I'm with whordel...trashy suckers when young!! Just my experience!! It doesn't bother me when their young thats just the natural game drive coming out!
