I've only had 1 or 2 slicks the last few nights, but I can't even count the dens i've treed, treed one on the outside and saw 1 or 2 in holes in trees. It's been a terrible few days for the opening of season, nobody around here has been doing real good.

Posted by A.P. on 11-12-2011 01:16 PM:

yea talk about frustrating my dogs have been den freeing and slick treein fools!! can't wait till the full moon is gone

Posted by treedog35 on 11-12-2011 03:47 PM:

well guys, i'm not glad your season has started the same way mine has but it's good to know that my dog ain't an idiot . hopefully it'll get better fast we had 4 inches of snow yesterday mornin it's gone now but when that stuff gets here and it gets deep that shuts us down. it would be nice for a change to be able to hunt more than 3 weeks of season around here.thanks guys for bein honest bout your dogs and what they been doin. hope everybody has a good season , thanks Bill

Same here. 3 slicks ,hole,and a den.She is usually 66 to 75% accurate .

2 for 4 last night. The two misses were HUGE misses. The two we dropped had to be the resident boars. Two big suckers.

I am wondering how do individuals come up with these mathematical conclusions(percentages)...how many times is the dog let out and how many times does he tree an actual coon? Please give me an example of this.

down here in oklahoma my young dog(2 yrs) has been treeing a bunch of dens and has only came up short a couple times, put him in a ukc hunt the other night he had 350 circle points on a den, no coon was seen that night and the other casts were dead. Must be the weather changing down here cause i know my male will tree a truck full of coon, guess ill just wait it out.

example dog makes ten trees has coon 8 times and slicks twice. = 80% accurate

I go by coon seen

no the question is what do some handlers tolerate from a dog. i want to tree as many coons as possible. slick treeing in not something i tolerate much of. 60% dog is not going to stay here.

In talking percentages do you count dens as having the coon?

The reason I ask is that many times the coon is not there, and many people just count them because of the famous "could be coon"

If the dog has good tracking abilities and speed you should tree very few dens, as the coon will have to climb something else before they make it home.
