Hey Hoosier Man how would that be scored? minus the strike?
simple answer from info given rules 4,d,e, 5b,g yes is the answer all dogs that are at or come in to tree to be handled and plus, minus ,circle or delete to be applied after scoring tree
One of those questions that is hard to answer without being there. If the dog is just hunting through, checks the tree and moves on then no he shouldnt be handled. If he stays handle him if the judge says to.

Hoosier ask Allen on this one. I had a guy scratched for not handling his dog at tree. Nowhere in the rules does it say the dog must tree! In fact rule 17 General information says "DOGS AT TREE MUST BE LEASHED!!!"

If a dog comes into the tree after the cast is in scoring position, then my understanding is to delete the strike.
The way it is explained the cast is in scoring position

I believe that dog should be handled when it comes into the tree, (after cast arrives). Minus his strike if coon is seen, circle his strike if tree is circled, circle his strike if dogs treed get minused their strike & tree.

If the dog comes into a closed tree, handle it, if the judge tells you to and he should if the dog does as the dog in the senerio. If you are in the process of scoring the tree, the dog that comes in late gets its strike scored accordingly. If it comes in after the scoring is over, delete strike. It is a previously scored tree.

I have had my dog trail into a tree and smell up it and trail off and tree a coon 40yds away , so should i have handled him or not . He does it regular on a lot of trees so walkin in if my dog isnt treeing i tell the judge what he does and if he doesnt bark up we do not handle him . I think it should be wrote as dog has to commit because just because 3 dogs are on that tree doesnt meen the coon is there . So let a dog do his work and finish the track . Just because your dog trees and mine checks your tree mine shouldnt be stripped of the opertunity to tree the coon your dog missed .

I understand your point Tim but the dog had more than 5 minutes to check that tree. If he was running the same track he should have already been finished with that.
I judge it like this if the dog comes through moving then let him go but if it goes over to a handler or starts checking the tree, then he is at the tree and needs handled. No different than if he would have been there when we arrived. The decision is up to the judge. Just like it’s his decision that the dog is showing tree when you arrive at the tree.
if your dog comes in to a tree after the tree is closed and everyone is at tree i will tell you handle your dog and score the tree no coon no worry he did have 5 minutes to check before tree was closed
Everyone has their own opinion but what does the rule say? Don't we all have to go by the same rule? Can some people just make up their own rules? My rulebook says, (4d,pg56) "but if they come into tree will get minus on track and nothing on tree if coon is seen". It does not say anything about treeing, getting up on tree or barking. It only says "if they come into tree". "If they come into tree" they should be leashed and scored accordingly. At least that is what the rulebook and UKC say. Now in Florida or the Hoosier state, y'all may have a different set of rules.

Let me ask you this. Would you handle a dog that was declared treed and milling all over around the tree when you got into handle it?
