Lipper blood question

I went huntin with a fella, a blueticker the other night and he asked how my male was bred, i told him heavy lipper bred top and bottom, he then said "Lipper dogs are inconsistent", i find that very untrue! Ive owned many lipper bred hounds and they have been morre accurate then any other blood ive owned! So who else agrees with him and thinks Lipper dogs are inconsistent? Just looking for experienced opinions.

I've only had two that have any decent amount of lipper blood in them. I've never had a hound with a ton of lipper blood. Out of the two I had one that was very inconsistant but she had a TON of nailor in her and I blame that trait on all the nailor blood. Shed look like a million bucks one night and the next I wouldn't of given ya 5 dollars for her. Needless to say I bought her under a tree on a night she looked like a million bucks and took a good loss on her when I couldn't take it anymore and sold her.

The other hound I have has been good to me so far. He isn't the worlds best dog but he goes hunting and trees coon. I can't ask for anymore. He's also less than 2 years old and tonight was his first night of a kill season so hopefully he does well after his first kill season is all said and done.

Me myself I prefer the heavy harry blooded walkers. But everyone has his own opinion.

And If I had to guess I'd bet your lipper dog showed that blue dog how it was done that night and that's why you got that comment.

hahaha yes sir your guess was right he commented that as we were walking back to the truck after my waker treed a coon 300 yards behind his blue dog.

re jamesbalog harry was off hayes who was off wagers lipper who was off house's lipper so your statement makes no sense lipper in most lines somewhere he must have been a coondog to have been bred so much the walker breed would not be the same without him imo

You are right, I'm sure he was a good hound. I wasn't even alive for the most part of his career. He threw what 5k plus pups, I'm sure when he threw some good ones in his day. I have nothing against the dog or his bloodline. I honestly could care less what the papers say, a coondog is a coondog. The best dog I have has the worst looking papers out of all of them I own and I had an all grand pedigreed dog that was scared of the dark, shed take off and run all day and wouldn't leave your side at night.

not trying to beat you up just showing how many good walkers go back to lipper you wrote about nailor who's mother was off lipper i have 3 different bred walkers but all have lipper in there lines somewhere fact he had a big influence on the walker breed of today

No offense taken, you are right, he did make a huge impact on the walker dogs of today. With 5000 plus pups I'd imagine it would be pretty hard for him to not be in most dogs of todays bloodlines somewhere.

I'm no expert all I do is un snap um and let um tree coon, but how many sets of papers can you pick up today and not see lipper, harry, sackett jr or nailor in? I wouldn't imagine it would be to many. I know everyone of my dogs have atleast one of them in it. Most have those dogs multiple times.

most of the new kids on the block call the nailer dogs "lipperblood" "houseblood"

when they dont know any better,,

as nailor blood is more like (his sire)tar rattler blood than anything else..

thats where the inconsistacy comes from!!!!

if can live with the dogs bad nights verse the good nights

they are great night hunt dogs as theres always the hunt the next weekend
to hope they are on the right page to get a win..

but when you are fur hunting and walk up and down a few mountains to some slick trees,,
the off nights can make a dogs life in the short range..

when bred to the right female ,you might get a consistant dog from nailor blood,
but breeding that dog to something else ,back to hopeing for the best again..just my opion..

after feeding 500-1000lbs of dogfood per week breeding and raising pups from the different lines of walkers ,i perfer the consistant blood oover the night hunt type blood as my dogs had to pay for their feed when season came in..

with the price of furs verse feed price today,,we'd have to clean the woods out to just break evan these days..

good luck with whatever type dog ya'all perfer to feed

top and bottom bloodlines are the same. both bring traits to the game and its never about any one dog in a breeding program no two are the same. traits are what were breeding for hoping to get as good or better than we started with imo.

That's not necessarily true. All it takes is someone with deep pockets to run a ad each month on a dog and one or two nice dogs off of him and you'd be surprised how many people will breed to a dog JUST because he's in the magazine.

PS: I'm NOT bashing Lipper
