Does Security Guard count? Been doing security for a year and fire police for the fire company for 14 yrs. Unarmed, unless you can count a mag light as a weapon!

8 years here worked 4 years on 12 hour nights 1 year on days and been in investigations for 3 years. Worked a K9 for 3 of those patrol years. I am thinking real hard about going back to patrol. We have 160 sworn officers and around 220 total counting non sworn and sworn.

We work 28 days on night shift and 28 days on day shift. I like days better because we work 6 to 6. Still got time to have a little family time before bed. Catch a passing hello on night shift. We work two on two off, three on two off, two on three off. Get two weekends a month off. I love it. ( MOST DAYS )

I do all 11-7 and I LOVE that shift! I will fill in for a 3-11 shift if need be, but I don't get to see my kids if I work that shift. 11-7 lets me sleep while they are in school and then be up with them til they go to bed and I head out to work. It is hell on hunting though. I can tell you what is happening at 3 am, but have no clue what is going on at 3 pm, LOL, I'm a certified Night Owl!

County Reserve Deputy

Swore in April, 1997. Work patrol, extra fill ins, tranport, etc. Had 100 yard rifle qualification yesterday with 20-25 mph cross wind. Shot an 80% first time and 93 second time. They asked me if I wanted to go again and I said there are 2 qualifying scores, good enough for me. lol

In this day and age, with the threat of terrorism, crime and drug problems, you guys put it on the line everyday for us. Thanks for your service.

Congratulations on your graduation. My late father was a Missouri State Highway Patrolman for 33 years. He loved the job, it allowed him to farm on the side. I was a Criminal Justice major, used to do some reserve work on the weekends.
Thanks to all that sacrifice family time to serve and protect others. Many times it is a thankless job.

I respect all law enforcement but I really respect private security guards quite a bit bunch more. For one thing , the jurisdictional area served is more well defined. and usually by a chainlink fence. Usually patroled lonesome with not much call available for backup . Plus, and this is the biggy to me, since the boundaries are so well defined , there is seldom having problems with one escaping into the community to try to advance a kingdombuilding kind of a thing , they are more into a private security. Where the boundaries are not so well defined, an escapee from the Constitutional form of government can hear somebody singing too loud on their own back porch and call in the National Guard for assistance. Bring in some tanks to cut donuts in their yard . Get my drift ? there has to be limits for all of us. Like the Blues Brothers said, " We'd like to welcome all of the Illinois Law Enforcement Division" " cause You, We, They," Everybody needs some loving" .
