What makes a dog cough and hack?

I have a dog that is coughing and hacking Doesnt do it all the time but it sounds bad when it does
Is this kennel cough or maybe something else?

Only had this dog a couple weeks but I had another dog here that was doing the same thing I dont know if they have been checked for heartworms
I plan on keeping this dog so I will get him checked but for now I got to do something about this cough

Kennel cough. Specially if you had another there doing the same thing. HIGHLY contagous.

I had one that did it most of his life, he didn't have heartworms, or kennel cough, what he did have was an advanced case of Bronchitis. I had him tested by two vets and they both said the same thing and that was it was the worst case they had ever seen. It showed up on exrays as brown spots on his lungs. One of the vets gave me meds to give him everyday and they were quite expensive and really didn't help much. If the dog tests neg for Heartworms and Kennel Cough, exrays will be the next step.

if its not heartworms or kennel cough ,get a bottle of antibioctics from the feed store..
as long as the vets can keep you buying them overpriced pills ,they will keep you comeing back.

all this rain and damp weather will cause the temp. bronckitis and a good shot of antibioctics will kick it out ..

i would say kennel cough...its very contagious my friends dog had it and it gave it to both mine and everyone elses we hunted with..id say its best to go get medican for it

Kennel cough remedy
14 0z water
1 spoon honey
1 spoon lemon juice
3 drops of hydrogen peroxide
Mix together and feed soaked in bread

04/19/2010: Michael from Rincon, Georgia writes: "We have two Chocolate Labs, Molokai and Konohika. One had a bad kennel cough and the other seemed ok. We used 8 oz of water with 3 drops of hydrogen peroxide and 1 teaspoon of honey, 3 times a day. Unbelieavable how well this worked. We gave it to both of them the first day and then just Molokai from then on. It took only two days and the cough was pretty much gone and after 5 days it was competely gone. Thanks to all for the great posts."

03/29/2010: Chuck from S. Milwaukee, Wi writes: "Hi.I have a 4 year old Lab (Truman) that came down with kennel cough. He also had a fever. I tried using the Honey water and hydrogen peroxide(3%) and it really worked. He coughed just a bit in the morning and when he got excited but after just two and a half days his cough was 99% gone. I also gave him 2 low dose aspirin twice for the fever. I put 3 drops of HP in 14 oz. of water and 1 tea spoon of honey. The first day, worst day he was sick I also dipped a piece of bread in the water/HP mix and it stopped the cough immediately. Truman weighs 90Lbs.

I would have liked to have seen this a few years ago. I had a dog that did this seasonally (allergies??) I would have liked to have tried this on that.

I'll have to keep that concoction for future use. I've used honey successfully before to ease the cough, and have used both a capful of bleach and apple cider vinegar in their water buckets, which seemed to help keep it from spreading. I actually use a little bit of the cider vinegar in their water most year round, except for the couple that won't drink as much with it in there...

I changed it a little to:
10 oz warm water
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 1/2 tbsp Honey
1/2 cap Hydrogen Peroxide
Dog has not coughed since giving it to him this morning
This really works
