Nocturnal Nailor Dogs
What is this line known for?? For example Sacket dogs are know for tree power, Clover for tracking ability, etc. What are the Nailor dogs known for??
Reason I ask is I am looking at some possible studs to breed a female to and Nailor is in there a couple times on a few of the studs. Just wondering what I would be getting into with that blood.

Ive owned 3 dogs straight out of nailor and they all had one thing in common and that being they were ground pounders. One of them was out of a nitro female and he was hot nosed but the other 2 could work up a cold track.. They were all pretty accurate.

Ground pounders? Never heard that term, what does it mean

Most of the good nailor dogs I have been in the woods with were stay put tree dogs. They might not have been the hardest tree dog out there but they weren't going anywhere regardless of what was going on around the tree. I would describe most of the good ones i've hunted as being decent track dogs but where they really have excelled has been putting a coon in the tree.
I also own a nitro dog. My nitro dog is a solid track dog when hunted up and he's a TREE DOG. Definitely the hardest tree dog i've ever been in the woods with but he won't back a dog. He has sackett Jr. 3x and Nailor 2x.

truthfully they were known for lazy close range dogs used in the mountains but HARD tree dogs. They will look like a million dollars when they want but if they dont want to go hunting you cant make them... They get this from rattler and some arent anything like i described. I guess it all depends on the female you breed them to. Thats probably why so many people crossed them on lipper females.

Thangs for the info. That is the stuff I was looking for.
What about smarts. Do these dogs typically have good kennel manners and sense about them when it comes to leading, loading, etc. I know some of this is in training but I have come across some lines of dogs that can't be broke from kennel barking, pulling like a mule when led, etc.

Mine have all been very smart dogs. They can sure be hard headed at times but they have a head full of sense. Mine get deep in a heartbeat and have a ton of hunt in them but if they don't want to go for some reason you aren't going to make them.

I always understood the term"ground pounder" to be a dog thats spends too much time on the ground....another term for blueticking pretty much

I'm liking everything other than what I am hearing about the bad tracks. Something I can't stand.
Is this a real common trait or something that pops up time to time like it does in all lines of dogs.

Ground pounding is when they start at the coldest end of the track and never pick thier nose up off the track until theyre so stretched out on the tree that thier on thier back tiptoes then they locate and start treeing.. Dogs do it a lot down here in Ga when its dry in the summer.. So basicly no track drifting and only tree when they are positive the coon is there.. Hope this helps sum it up haha

i always thought ground pounding was working a track to death. aka blueticking.
i've got a female thats double nailor on the bottom i think she shows alot of nailor traits. hard tree dog sometimes a good track dog. sometimes she shows a little streak of laziness but she hasnt done that for a while. and she just up and falls treed without barking on the ground alot of times. whens she's treed right she can take all the pressure you can give her.
Only one I hunted with is the Nailors Southern Country Rock (off Nailor Semen) dog and he is a get gone get treed dog with style. Seen him on the WMA half way through season after the coons been getting hammered. He is a nice dog thats throwing some nice dogs. Jake Garner owns him and will tell you the ins and outs of him and I am sure take you hunting with Rock and his offspring. He's got one right now he is liking alot..all are young with 2 years being the oldest but they have already done a good bit of winning. He has a few that are already NTCH and GRNTCH and several with wins out of him.
