Terrain Change Question

Do you think a 2 yr old can adjust to a terrain change like going from flat land thick coon to mountain thin coon and how long should i give him?
In Ohio this dog looks great quick to tree likes to split and accurate. In West Virginia he doesnt hunt that great and I think he is treeing alot of squirrells or blanks

Every dog is different. Some will adjust in 1 or 2 nights, others may take months. I have brought dogs down from Michigan to hunt for my uncle and some of them never adjust and I just sent them back.

In July I bought a 4 year old PKC CH UKC NTCH walker female and it took her close to 2 months before she started treeing coon here consistently. She is doing pretty good now.

I been doing this for years, bringing dogs from the north south. Actually I start them down here and send them north. It generaly takes much longer for them to adjust down here than up there. Like Virgil Ive seen them take up to two, three months befor they adapted BUT I have never had one that didnt adapt. Good Luck

Around here if he doesnt find a coon quick he will fall treed on what I think is a squirrell What should I do because this dog is bred the way I like and has a huge mouth and is an A-1 tree dog

Whoop him and send him on. Be consistant about it. Dont be afraid to take a keen limb and sting him at the tree. You will know when he has a coon and when he says "come get me". You dont even need to kill coon to him.

...bought a nice hound out of West Virginia.......she looked REAL good up there..........brought her down here to our deep water swamps, and if somebody offered you a penny for her you'd have to find a way to give him change........took her a year to adjust...........I don't think going from dry land area to dry land area would be too much of a difference, though...........IF he will go deep.......

Your dog should adjust. I have bought dogs from North and flatter ground and it does take some of them adjust to the hills and also the distance they need to go. I had one that would bust out there about 300 yards and just come to a stop, like "what the heck, I haven't struck a coon yet". I also think if your dog came from the flat parts of Ohio, it may not be used to thermals in the hills, and that will make them pull up off the air, and be wrong when it trees.
