Thanks patches! That makes me feel a little better... And I wasn't really planning on getting rid of him, why, are you looking for one?

Posted by patches9452 on 10-05-2011 01:14 PM:

not really just brings back some memories of one i had colored like that

Posted by ranger21690 on 10-05-2011 01:26 PM:

I'm not sure if I'm wanting to get rid of him or not. I git him from a guy that just had two twins and he broke his neck at work, so he couldn't take the dog anymore. But ranger was born in Kentucky and started on a coon pelt. However, I have two dogs and about to have a child, so I'm testing it out to see....

back in the mid 80's you would see lots of treeing walkers that had lots of ticks on them too. i had one that was very ticked up and had very little tan on him. Lots of people said he was bluetick, others said he was crossed. I knew both parents and i was there the day after he was born. He was a treeing walker. I think that down the line somewhere bluetick and walkers crossing was a common practice and from time to time it shows up. jmo

Don't think I've ever heard of open ticked in Blueticks.

Will do patches, although I'm in Florida.... If that matters.

Mine looks about the same with a trail of three black patches on her hip and tail base. She's a bluetick but not the classic pattern of one. For bench showing it might be an issue, under a coon who cares. If you have the papers and it hunts for you then the only issue is if you like the look and can get along. On the plus side these light colored dogs may be easier to see at night and along a roadway if it gets in front of a car.

Ive seen several Blueticks over the years with this type coloration, not real common but they are out there.

See that color quite often in the Walker and English breeds just not the Classic Bluetick Coloration. Not that it matters. I'm not sure what ulcer papers are. You are meaning puppy papers I assume.

Well thanks everyone for all the replies! It doesn't really matter to me either way as I personally am not showing the dog anyway... I was only curious....

Yes, there are a few 'Blues' that throw back to this light color. Most carry a lot of Smokey River Diamond Jim. But the more recent ones will usually carry some of the Utchman bloodlines.
Don't be afraid of these color dogs. They are as much 'Bluetick' as any of the other bloodlines.

And who cares how light or dark they are, IF THEY ARE UNDER A COON!!!

Had a LIGHT one

Bluetick male I had out of a male from Rattler, and a Bullet bred female. I sold him at 8 months old, and this was one of several coon he treed before I sold him back to the Sire's owner.

Just a throw back to their original breeding, which was English. That is what I call a white Bluetick, nothing wrong with him. In fact, when I had Blueticks and had 2 like him in the litter, folks wanted them first, said they are smarter, better coondogs. I don't know if thats true, I never kept one to test the theory. Since Walkers and Blueticks are both branches off the English, you get dogs in both breeds that look like the original breed.

That's why I like my English dogs, they are like a box of crayons, reach in, pick a color and it's still English!

is the other dog a shepard. kind of looks like a shepard/ coyote cross i used to have. now that dog was a coondog. she was death on possems also.
looks like your blue goes back to the old roots when blueticks and english and walkers were all one breed. i've seen light blues like that. i had one very light female that was brushcreek and utcman bred.
