age to hunt a kid
My son is 3 an will be 4 in feb. When is it a good age to start taking him coon hunting cause im dying to get him out there with me. Momma thinks he is way to young. Let me hear what you think.
Starting hunting my son when he was 3. He now 9. Anyone who has ever coon hunted or rabbit hunted with him will tell you the boy can hunt and go through anything and everything to get to the hounds and not complain about it. He'll go through stuff that Dad would rather walk around.
My son will be 4 in December and he will be tagging along with me when the snakes go in..CAN'T WAIT!!

I have taken him a time or two to go tuen a coon loose on some pups and he absolutely loves it!! You're right though you don't want to put them in the rough timber, break them in slow

I took my oldest when he was just about 3 for the first time. Now when it gets dark he says daddy can we go coon hunting.
i'll be taking my 5 yr old grandson bout the 3rd week of oct..once the leaves are coming off and the green is dead, crops down and such. i got a 3 yr old dog that is perfect for an old man like me and a young kid.he goes hunting good but he dont blow out of the section, aint trashy, stays treed and is pretty good bout having the coon.

Prepare yourself! Kids are brutely honest. Maybe not at 4 but I have an 8 year old that will tell you after a couple of hunts whether your toting a coon dog or not. They dont make all the excuses grownups make they judge by how many coons they are seeing!!!! Have fun!!!

I can't really remember when I first took my oldest son, maybe as a young 3 year old. Anyhow, just keep it interesting, pack snacks and what not, bring your 4 wheeler, etc. He loves it and that suits me just fine!
(this was last week)
I started taking my boy when he was 4 years old, he is 17 now and still loves to hunt, keeps them out of trouble.
My father took me hunting when I was 6. It wasn't coon hunting, but deer hunting. I am now 26 and my daughter loves to go out coon hunting with me. She's not quite 2 yrs.
She will walk the trails and my black and tan won't pull when she's holding his leash, which is awesome. In some of the rougher stuff I have a pack she sits in and I pack her everywhere. I let her tell the dogs to get them. She says 'Get da coon chiefs' (chief is her favorite of all the dogs, the black and tan).
I think taking children out is great, it gets them used to the dark at an early age, and removes the fear from them.
Dad started taking me sometime between the age of 4 and 6....I've been squirrel and groundhog hunting with him before that....that's how it came about...he wouldn't let me go coon huntin with him...but he promisedto take me squirrel hunting one morning...said were getting up before the sun comes up...I was excited...well...the sun came up and dad never got up...I'm sure he worked overtime but I didn't know better...I woke him up and said dad! Its time to go hunting! The sun is up! He asked if I rather go with him and the coondog later that nite...I was thrilled...and its been in my blood ever since...

I took my boy when he was 3. Not everytime. He is 15 and has his own dog now. He may not go everytime but I ask him when I am going to go and sometimes he asks me if we can go. I just don't force it on him.

I carried all 3 of mine in a carrier on my back when they were 2.
They are 18, 15, and 12 now. The 12 year old and 18 year old have each shot out 2 this year. The 15 year old has only shot out 1 so far, but I suspect he will shoot the most out this year as he hunts every Friday and Saturday with me. We really don't shoot out too many until they prime up.

I took my nephew when he was 2. We had to carry him alot. He is 4 now and loves to go. The only problem is when he falls asleep driving between drops he is done. A hurricane is not waking him. The dogs like him better than they do me.
