Shocking Collars

When is it a good idea to use one on a dog and for what reason? I ask this because I have a friend that has a dog that recently locked up with an armadillo and was shocked pretty good for it. The dog has since seemed to have lost its will to hunt and won't even stay in the woods. How do you get it back to running or can you?

Used correctly a e-training collar is a great tool. Used incorrectly they are the worst thing you can do to a dog.

Keep taking the dog hunting and it should start going again. Right now it probably has no idea what hurt it or why. If you got hurt like that and did not understand why or how you would also be scared.

It is best to introudce a dog to an e-collar under CONTROLLED sircumstances and as light as possible to get the desired effect. I use it first to demand it come when called. I teach it to come when called FIRST, then set up a situation where the dog will want to refuse. I use the e-collar to say I can reach you still and you must come when called.

When trash breaking the dog will relate the shock to "I did wrong" and understand that it came from you, not the enviroment.

Thanks. I appreciate it very much. She is a really good dog and we are hoping that he can get her straightened out soon.

That a nice post Bill. I couldn't have said it better myself.

key word is used correctly let me put one on your neck i'm currently working on a young dog right now thats all screwed up because of a shock collar dogs are smart all it takes is correction not shocking handler gets mad fries dog dog that made mistake never the same i've seen dogs that could be corrected by simply yelling others a switch some a boot but one that needs a e collar can belong to someone else
