Performance Nominated ???

Ive been out of hunting for a little over six years now and I have a 8 month old pup out of my old dog that looks really promising. He has the characterics that you look for in a dog that is almost absent in todays generation line of dogs.I was telling my buddy if he is like his daddy and the line of old hounds that he comes from I would like to Stud him and so forth. He told me that because he wasnt from a performance sire nobody would breed to him and that I couldnt nominate him.How does a dog become a peformance sire to begin with?If I cant make him a sire or something this the craziest dang thing Ive ever heard, sounds like some kind of heresy to me.If a dog is UKC registered and can tree his own coon why in the hell cant I make him a performance sire or performance nomiated???Seems like it would only benefit the breed to make a dog a performance sire that can throw dogs that we are all looking for.

Your buddy isn't right. You can Nominate any dog you wish to run at stud.

In order for him to be performance nominated to earn points now he would have had to been off of a sire that was in the program and then the litter would have had to been paid up as would he.

Thats right he wasnt off of a performance sire. His sire was 13 years old when he died and back then I dont recall all of this perfomance nominated stuff. From what I hear you cant give a dog away if he isnt performanced.

if the pups arent performance you cant give them to a competition hunter they want to win money when the win, if you nominate your dog for this year now it would cost u 300 bucks for the rest of the year, but if you wait until december and nominate him for next year before jan.1,2012 and nominate him for 2012 it will only cost 100 bucks, I could care less personally as long as it trees coon

Posted by amazingcursouth on 08-11-2011 04:09 AM:

the only thing performance plan was made for is to keep up with the super stakes in pkc. if your dog throws good hounds that tree coon, who cares about the performance plan. i would rather give pups to hard hunters than sell them to someone who don't have a clue about training hounds. if he throws nice dogs then many will pass on performance to get ahold of a good coon treeing hound. well any really serious coon hunter that is.

Thats what Im trying to figure out also and I also think its a buch of bull crap that I cant make my pup eligible for the performance program just because he didnt come from a performance sire.Thats the stupidest rule Ive ever heard of and something needs to be done about that.

Guys....the first thing you need to do is read the Performance Program rules and description. It will answer most of your questions. If you have any questions after that let me know and I'll be glad to answer them for you. Click on this link:

I don't understand why you think that's a stupid rule? Look at PKC's SS you can't enter a pup into the SS if his Sire wasn't a SS sire... So UKC's rule is no different.

Simple

Have the sire of a litter DNA profiled(contact UKC for a kit). Nominate him for the performance sire program. Nominate a litter sire by him. Then each pup has to be permanately nominated one time. The program is a good way to make a little bit of your hunting expenses back. If your dog wasn't nominated from a perf. Sire there is nothing you can do. Just make sure the next one is.

Nominating sires is the biggest share of the Perf payback. Why should a pup off a sire who was never paid up be allowed to reap benefits it never paid a cent into? It isn't a stupid rule, it is a rule that make total sense. The part that shows the lack of intelligence (stupid) is buying a pup that wasn't off a Perf sire.

LOL, the pup is 8 months old so I would not call it back then as the program has been around for a few years unless the pup was born from frozen semen.

Since the sire is now dead, getting DNA would be kind of hard unless you have frozen semen or want to dig him up to swab the mouth.

Isn't it great when some one who can't even read the simple rules gets on here and trashes a simple program, then after his whole six years of coonin, he has the ability to pick a future sire at a ripe ole age of 8 months. I sure hope it isn't a walker.

Who said I wanted him nominated for nothing.Id be willing to put down $500 or a $1000 to get him nominated.Thats right I would rather put down the money on my line of hounds as to buy an all grand litter nominated, slick treeing, trash running, pup who can tree only feeder bucket type coon like they do in heavily coon populated states.

I guess your right Mike,if he makes It thats exactly what I plan on doing. They are alot of super nice hounds that are just pleasure hunted and some of these people have been hunting the same line of hounds for years and have never seen a hunt and there owners would care less if they were ever performanced nominated as long as they were UKC registered. These are the type of people that keep coonhunting going and passing it down from generation to generation,so where is their rewards to help contributing to the sport and UKC if they ever to wanted to get a young dog nominated?

If you would just read the rules you would realize how stupid your rantings are.
