Hides

Does anyone know where you can sell coon hides in North Carolina? I thought it could be worth looking into. Any help with this would be great. Thanks

Southern hides? I sell hide and all and they can do what they want to with the hide. Might be like the Irishman that stowed away on a bananna boat. When they got him out they said well you sure had plenty to eat. How do you like banannas? He said the flesh was too chewey and the cob was too big.

There is not a lot of money to be made with hides from the South since the temps never get so cold. Coons don't need a full coat to keep warm. What money there is comes from hides from northern states and I don't think anyone is getting rich without a ton of work in it. Even then there's not a lot of money in it.

Coons must be a delicacy along the coast of SC. Two people give me $10 a head across the board for every one. I can't furnish enough for Holidays and Super Bowl. They are only sought after in cold weather which is just as well. I have to kill alll the coons I tree where I hunt and I can only hunt when it's cold enough for the Gators to leave the dogs alone. So I am not overdoing it at all. They might pay for gas or dogfeed but not both.

Fur Fish and Game is a good magaine if you are interested in fur.

I bet someone from the North Carolina Trappers Association would have an idea.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not looking to get rich but if we're goin to kill it then why not see about getting somethin out of it. I was just wonderin if there's anyone here in NC that buys so me and my Leps can earn a few bucks lol

The things I learn on this forum...I never realized that the hides may never sell in the south. I guess I just never thought about it. Here in Indiana we sell the hides and maybe once every two years someone wants a young coon for the table.
When I was kid selling hides (hunted and trapped) was a pretty big deal.
If you can't sell the hides, there are some artificial bait manfacturers (mepps) who may buy the tail...I know there are a bunch of guys around here who sell squirrel tails.......
That stikll blows me away..not being able to sell the hides. I need to get out more I reckon.

Leps are all I hunt now too. Other than some crosses. It's good to plan ahead. They are hide dogs. LOL
