dog's think!

nope! and neither do politicians. It is totally impossible for politicians and might be for a dog!

Posted by Chris Barber on 08-07-2011 12:33 AM:

I Think they can. Some are just smarter than others. Kids think at school. Dogs think when they are trained. Same as school. The more training they get the more they learn. I do believe most is inherited but you still have to train and make them think.

For example: a dog that has not been wearing a dummy collar will get to know that it is the collar shocking him. At first he just thinks it. lol

A buddy of mine says to quit a hunt on a good note, let them sit and think about what they done. Its good for em!!

dogs are just like humans they are wired the same way they just cant talk. They like to be made to feel good and like to make you feel good. If they couldn't think then they couldn't please you. Your their boss man only difference is instead of a raise they want table scraps. Lol

Posted by H. L. Meyer on 08-07-2011 01:28 AM:

So

Lets see if a dog can think then why would he run a Deer rather than a coon he should know by thinking that running a coon is what you want him to do.
Do you realy think a dog is wired the same as a human. then if he is and wants to please you why do they take a dump on the living room carpet that don't make you happy.
Is being smart the same as being able to THINK.
My buddy says the same thing about quitting and thinking but that don't mean i believe it .
Don't bash me I am just wondering about THINKING it's too hot to hunt might as well see what people "THINK"

Then

Why would he decide to go in a cave that he can not get out of?

Hummmmm

I wonder why we are taught at all of the canine seminars that a dog is a creature of habit and is trained by repetition. if a dog can think then why don't we just give him a choice and be through with it?

Im not hunting Dogs do have thinkers but dogs have very narrow minds. They are not much smarter than the game we pursue. A hounds brain is wired to eat, crap, please and pursue game. Nothing more nothing less. God put them here for mans use and mans pleasure. Man do I Love my hounds though

A dog can remember and it acts to a command and barks when its hungry,I would have to say it can think.

Lee Stocking

I must agree with you a little, I think the game my persue are smarter than my doga though. And man I love my dogs also.Could not imagine a day without my dogs.

Well, I have had a few that I really wondered about. And others that I thought might be outsmarting me.Which don't take much.
But to seriously answer your question.I would say yes.

CURIOUSITY,We have to realise most hunters only interact with their hound when its time to hunt.We dont interact with them the way we do with our house dog. There just as smart as any dog but instead of all the obedience training, they get track and tree trained.

Posted by H. L. Meyer on 08-07-2011 02:28 AM:

Now hat is interesting

Who trains them to track and tree? and why don't they just think I will tree that coon.
HOBO that is a statement that requires some THOUGHT. in other words I'm gona THANK that one out.

gotta go

Had a good time this evening.
Take a little time and look up the definition of the word.....THINK.
Had this discussion at one of the canine seminars I attended and it was as much fun now as it was then on peoples opinion about a dog being able to THINK. See you down the road H L Meyer bye bye.

absolutely they can.
if not, why would a newfie save 40 peoples lives off a sinking ship??
why would my dog, after i shut the alarm off, gently wake me 15 min. later???
training just instills what you expect from them as a human.
what do we know, we cant even run a govt. or a conversation on this board without an out an out pi$$ing match.
isnt that what dogs do??

jmo,
kelley

But have youe ever had a dog that would give his all for you but sell him and it took awhile for him to hunt for somebody else. I think they also have feelings. I seen a guy get a little to rough with a gyp that was a real nice hound and she wouldn't hunt any more. He laid her up for a month or so and still wouldn't.

He sold or traded her and a few months later a guy called and asked about the dog to make sure papers hadn't been switched because she was doing real good.
Now she has two wins towards grand,

So I think they do have the ability to think and have feelings.

i think i will take a untrained dog out of a pound compared to some of the kids and adults i have seen. but i do agree with you.

Actually Lee, coons are much smarter than dogs. A coon rates even with a rhesus monkey on the intelligence scale.

As far as thinking, intelligence, and reasoning many of the experts can't agree on this one.

Personally, I believe many animals can think and reason within the biology of their species. The thing I haven't been convinced of is any animal thinking or reasoning outside its biology.

If you ever had an escape artist, you would know that they do think. If the female watched you fix where she came out, she would beat you back to the house !

i think this was a very intelligent answer, unless you studied biology and darwin.
evolution.
it will evoke a response every time.
i believe in god , but i also believe in evolution.
if a coon can out think a monkey that can fly into space, what can certain dogs think?? what can anyone think?? what does anything think???
philosophy, i got an A in , in college. reasoning i think.

was watching one of my pups the other day,she was tossing an object into the air and attempting to catch it before it hit the ground. she might not have put much thought into tossing it but she was sure thinking she could catch it. lol she's never seen another critter do it and I don't know where it came from if it wasn't a thought.

and since i believe in god, show me he doesnt exist.
prove to me dogs dont think on their own.
show me i am wrong.

not an arguement , just another point.
