What do youy do about...

What do you do when someone shows up at a hunt without there dog. At one of the local clubs this family is showing up quite regular without there dog and they say they got an hour to go get it after cast is called out. The rule I read is that the one hour only starts after time out is called. Can you scratch a dog that is not at the club house when the cast is called out?

That's true... scratching for delaying the cast, doesn't start until after time out. But, I would think that one could argue that if time is not "in" then time is "out". Therefore the cast starts in "time out" and the one hour delay could be started immeidately. If it's an hour to get the dog, then time to return to the guide's hunting ground, you're guaranteed to exceed the one hour.

Now... I don't know why these folks are arriving without there dog, but when it doesn't get dark until late in the day, these folks are threatening the scratching of the whole cast for not returning by deadline, which is unfair. I would take it up with the club or MOH and not scratch them, but decline their entry.

Rule 6(j) only applies to a situation where timeout has been called. UKC has stated both on this board and in the Advisor that 6(j) DOES NOT apply to dogs not on grounds at drawout time. I believe UKC has ruled that if the cast is ready to go to the woods and a dog is not present, the cast can scratch that dog and go hunting. I don't think they have to stand around waiting on someone to get their dog.
I am positive you do not have no automatic hour to make the cast wait.

Jim nailed it on this one. If he doesn't have his dog when the cast is ready to leave he can be scratched.

Did you get beat

I beat the guy that went to get his dog beat ya huh. He may have been pressed for time and signed up and went and got his dog. If he gets back in a reasonable time I could care less.

No I did not get beat, if I had would that have made a difference? Your small minded kind don't need to reply. Notice I said quite regular. The last hunt one them had to go home and change clothes, I just sctratched my dog and went home.
