how to get a hound to track and tree by the time they are 6 months old???

how can i train my walker pup to track and tree by the time he is 6 months old?? i have a 6 week old walker pup he has great bloodlines... please help me out......

its got to be in the pup. not every pup is gonna do it at 6 months old.

There is a guy on here ,I will have to see if I can find it that has a video out.TREE MY PUP.It focuses on imprinting and training to tree by six months old.Also Ed Meade from Michigan has a video that has a very successful rate of starting pups to tree on scent at a very early age.I recommend you purchase both.They are very useful If you have a well bred pup and the desire to use them .

It will start when it's ready, just work on obedience now, take him for long walks in the woods in the daytime first. Just let him be a puppy. What many people don't tell you about their pups that started at 6 months,is that many don't turn out to be great coon dogs. I like for them to start naturally at 10-15mo old.

I have one that's already treed her teddy bear and she's 10 weeks old. Only time I messed with her with it. Treeee dog to. I got it recorded on phone but don't know how to post recordings. Its not a video just voice recording. She was hammered down for a 10 week old lol.

Buy a Jet bred pup ......... I have seen hundreds over the years that would tree their own Coon that young .....

Like everyone else said its got to be in the pup, and you don't want to over do it,you could set the pup back trying to push it to hard.

I learned that the hard way, got my pup off Elvis and started training him,He was treeing coons at 6-7mnths old but fell off a rock bluff over a creek and fractured a hip,had to lay him up for a good while before i could take him out again, just be patient with your pup .

I'm not ancient but when I started 18 months old was time to maybe start wondering about the treeing. The running part might have started at six months and out running might have been by twelve months. So you can understand why I was impressed enough with a pup that started treeing at 5 months that I got blind and messed with that line of dogs for almost ten years. But even an old fool will eventually catch on. These pups were what I now call Start, Fart, Stumble and Fall kind of dogs. They were all as good as they would ever be by a year old and then go backwards. Run one out of the garden at six months and tree in a yard tree at six months in summer can happen but it won't impress me into buying one. In fact, I would be on the lookout to stay away from one like that. So many have what you are looking for just bred into them these days, if he don't naturally do it I don't have any better idea of how to train a pup to now more than I did when I started. I personally think you are better off if you set the six month thing for a goal but did not buy a line likely to do it. Set the goal and then give him a year more and you might be happier for the next ten years.

i am never impressed by any pup that would run and tree at 6 mths old. i have seen so many of them, that would, that were crossthreaded by the time they were a year old.most would of made pretty nice dogs if they had been started at a proper age.

heres a pup i just sold was born nov10 /10 video was take april 23 11 he ran loose was a lazy fat pup till about 4 1/2 mo old and he changed

i have a red female now born jan 7 11 she has been out 3 times last night in 2 hrs of hunting she checked in 1 time opens on track , trees sparrows

i like letting them run loose it helps them mature faster , normally if i have a pup by time its 5 mo old its wanting to load just from watching me load the other dogs

Walk your pup around cornfield edges. When corn is in the milk stage is the best time to make your pup. All it takes is that one lucky time that the pup runs one up a tree.

I think you can burn a dog out hunting it to young. If it lays a track that track needs to climb. Am I going down the wrong road with mine? My older pup (4/30) will tree cats and squirrels anytime she runs across one and by smell not by sight should I stop her? I don't think so.

Has anyone seen a kid that was an outstanding middle school athlete that excelled for their age; also notice that by the time they reach highschool they are burnt out or haven't gotten much better. I think its the same story with dogs....NOT ALWAYS.....but sometimes.

Another thing dont always listen to stud adds....I may be wrong but I'd say most them pups are twice as old as they say. Slot of people mean well with pups. The fool with em. Show them caged coon , drags etc. But when it boils down to it your going to spend quite a few nights in the woods not treeing coons.

for me its breeding.

haven't raised a pup from my dogs in 30 years that couldn't tree and easy coon by itself before 6 months old. I have had some do it before they were 5 months old the last couple of litters. It starts with breeding. I can usually expose mine to a caged coon with an old dog at about 5 months old and then turn them loose in front of them after they have bayed at it 10 minutes or so and they usually start after a couple of those.

I've treed hundreds of coon with pup's that age & younger. Not sumthin to do nightly but here & there. Keepin them wantin is way better than burnin them out.

My trick was largely genetics & opportunity.

I had one that treed wild coon at five and a half months, split treed and held under pressure at six months. Hunted him alone after the split tree till he was finished. Used him for a check dog at two and a half and I treed a pile of coon with him. Those kind are born, not made. Only one I've seen like that in fourty years, so good luck. He was my best all time till recently I got one I like better, but he didn't start that young.

would the pups birth date effect this goal?
i know last winter around here we set record colds
and snowfall.
