should i show a hide at 6 weeks old tho??? and will that make him start at a earlier age????
I have a pully system set up in a small tree. I drop the hide somewhere in the yard and let them track it and tree it on there on with the pully they are not tracking me. I have 2 pups now one would track and tree the drag at 6 weeks. The other pup started last week and it was born 5/28. I am by no means a dog trainer so take what I say with a grain of salt. The black dog was doing it at 6 weeks and all the cats LOVE her now.

nice lookin hounds and thanks... do you think by 3 or 4 months old i could show a live coon to him and not ruin him???
Both of mine has seen a live coon but I don't know when they should see there 1st one. Do not let the coon get to him that would do him in. I have let mine fight squirrels but thats not a coon.

thanks buddy for all the info....
I would ask some more people because I am no dog trainer. The earlier you start one and the more you do with them has to help.

I caught a kitten coon in a live trap night befor last. I put the whole works in an off the ground pen with a fifteen month old mama and 7 six weeks old pups. The mama is not what I would call a coondog yet but she was coming along good eough I decided to breed her. She had had about twenty coons in her mouth by last march. Till then she would have run from a coon under the same circumstances I do believe. But motherhood took over today and I was scared she was gioing to rip her teeth out. The pups all dove in the farrowing box. I kind of hope it did terrify them to be honest. They are pups for goodness sakes. They can hang out under mamma's skirt for quite a while in my opinion. It will give give them a chance to think about how scareddy cat they were untill they they get old enough to size up a little coon and take care of business. If it made a lasting impression they cannot overcome by the time their nuts drop to hell with them , But I doubt it.
