drivin to woods ,
Say you go to a club for a hunt and there is a cast going 15miles away and there is one going 50 miles away . Which would you rather draw.
The cast that only goes 15min away is hunted hard and coons are hard to tree in this area , the walkin is easy .
the cast that is drivin 50miles has got coons and always comes back with coons scored , its a little drive , the walkin is a little harder but it is managed for coon populations .
It don't matter just go huntin

I'll take the coons and the plus points. If you are worried about easy walking just stay home and watch tv.
I may be a little biased because where I live and hunt there is no such thing as easy walking and easy hunting. 95% of the time you will be walking up a mountain to the tree anyway.

I'll drive a little further to hit some coons. Where I live easy walkin is rare. No matter where they tree your walking up hill to get them.

Name of the game is treeing coon and scoring points but in the end I don't think you get to choose.
The reason i posted this was because i would always guide to my woods which was the farthest away , people would always complain but 9 of 10 cast came back with a win . I believe in treeing coons and if i have to drive then i will . At the Winter Classic I guided out of Fowlstown and its 45min to an hour from Albany and then we drove around another 60 to 80 minutes to the woods . i know thats a lot of driving but if you want to tree coons some times it has to be done .
like rance56 said, for UKC, gotta drive.
I guide pretty regularly and I'm almost an hour from any club. But people don't complain when we're scoring on 6 or more coon pretty regularly.

I'd rather drive a little bit also, I try to guide at our club but almost always someone is whining about driving an extra 30-45 minutes to hunt.
Seems like there tune always changes though when there headed back to the club with a pretty decent + point score.

making deadlines is the biggest question. I hunt at the same club as tim and i have a great place to guide on private land, but no one wants to drive 30 miles to get there. i tree coons constantly at this place and take very few coon out. Oh and tim. we got the paper work in on a new club. so it will get better

So if I draw you as a guide at the Winter Classic, I am looking at almost 5 hours of driving time? Myself, I think that is a little too much even if you tree 5 coons. But I hate to drive. I know that some people don't mind it. Maybe they should give everyone the choice before they draw out. What kind of scores do your casts usually have?

There is a fundamental problem here that this question is even being asked. This isn't suppose to be a contest to see who has or can guide to the best hunting ground but obviously that is what it has evolved into.
UKC would seem to be less about the dogs and more about who has the best hunting.

i don't mind driving, but with gas at 3.65 per gallon, im really limited on how far i drive to hunt. but im one of the fortunate ones with good places to hunt close by.

all things considered, if Tim's woods are not used, nobody is competing against those woods, so what will it matter. You would hope that the clubs have good guides at the bigger events, and closer is better with today's gas prices. I do agree, everyone, regardless of registry wants to be in coons. One thing that needs to be done, and it would take some legislating on part of UKC. Closest ground is used first, moving to the farthest out to fill all needs. Once they have enough guides for entries, draw the guides to the cards, then everyone had a fair draw. Only problem, hunt is in Georgia, guide is from Iowa. Do we see a pattern. Personally i could care less where i draw to, as long as its fair. You can only worry about the dogs you draw, and let the chips fall where they will. No system is perfect, and as we all know, theere are ways that will get a thinking handler around any obstacle as far as draw. He/she still has to beat those other dogs.
