The push rod on the plunger should have depth stop notches and a twist ring so you can meter the amount. I set it back two clicks for my 65 lb hound. I think I could use less but I know I don't need more than that. I use this once a month year round to prevent heartworms from growing to be adults in my dog. She has not had any reaction or problem. I tuck it into half slice of bread made into a peanut butter sandwich and it is eaten and gone. What you do with it is your sole responsibility since this product is labeled for horse use only. Not everyone agrees and if there is a problem good luck finding a vet who will want to be involved. I choose to use this product and have read up and tried it this way. Looks like it works for my dog.
