whats the downfall in entries

i competition hunted all through the 80s and 90s,i started back two yrs ago and the numbers in all eventx ukc pkc all ofem. there ust to be on average 5 to 10 cast at just about any ukc nite hunt you went to and at least 2 or three nite ch cast at the hunts, and most all your rqe events would have enough dogs to fill 20 cast or near it,what happen to the competitive spirit, gotta love it.

What happened around here is. Most of the hunters got old and gave it up. That and we have about ran out of places to hunt. Coupled with the fact that every county around has a coon club now. Not to mention times are hard nowdays.

The registries say the total number of entries thru the year are not down. So what does that tell you? Everyone has their own backyard club and aren't traveling to any of the others.

well

i beleive both are prob a def factor, ukc used to not let clubs open within so many miles of one another i thought,i thought it used to be within 100 miles of another club, seems like that isnt a factor anymore.

people's tired of loseing. I was. Only way I'm paying the money for the entry fee and then paying the money for the gas to drive way off wherever the guide takes you is if I know for sure I got dog enough in my box to have at least a good chance of winning. I went several years and didn't enter a single hunt even though I had dogs. None of them were good enough. I can't see just throwing my money away.

i can't see driving 100 miles to hunt one dog for 2 hours and driving 100 miles back home and maybe spending the night in a motel or sleeping in the truck. why do that when i can take 3 dogs hunting for 4 hours and drive a total of 40 miles. if i were trying to build a name and reputation and young enough to care i might consider it. as for me, i just buy a puppy from someone that has gone through all that and i'll just hunt for the fun of wearing out dogs.

if your chasing titles i guess it is worth it.....to me it's not. Last hunt i went to cost me 180.00 and came in with plus...just not enough. but if you think about it, it cost the guy that won the same amount....and he didn't get nothing but a slip of paper for his win. hmmmmmmmm making it hard to go to the hunts. ukc could pay cast winners or make it worth more than a piece of paper. but this is my opinion. i know we have pkc akc and so forth. but you would think that a registry as large as ukc could do something. i don't know about attendance in other places, but ours has dropped off a good bit.

iff you hunt performance registered dogs you do get more than a yellow slip

your right, but still a lot of that depends on a number of things. But you don't get the money at the end of the hunt. You have to wait months for it. performance is good and i like it, but waiting till the end of the year is not good for poor boys like me. besides the limited amount of hunts i hit, performance don't really pay off. but if i got a chance to hunt for a few hundred a nite........thats where i will be.

A point cant be worth much anymore and the number of dogs in the hunts aint very many so you have to go to how many hunts to make your money back or to even break even?
