Good Hunt but have a Question
Well I had a pretty good hunt last night. I have a one year old kansas junior bred male and he has prolly been in the woods about 10 times. we turned him lose last night by himself and he struck a hot trail, treed, and we gave him the coon. So I was proud for that. My buddy has a real good 4yo night chaampion dog and we turned them loose after that tree and the dogs hit a good trail we here his dog start looking up but hasnt necessarily located any yet but my pup comes in and starts treeing hard. The other dog goes on and trees the coon further down the line just a little ways and of course mine has a slick tree. My question is ive seen him do this several times and how do I get him out of being tree happy like this. Should I start hunting him a good bit more by himself or what?
Yes if he is capable of treeing them alone only hunt him alone that way if he misses boot him and send him on and he won't have any other distractions.
hunt him alone and dont knock coon out to him, he's starting to exspect acoon every time he looks up. a good petting at the tree and move on. he needs to move a track alone and locate the right tree. if he slick tree's lead him around the tree there's a track leaving that tree, no giving him the boot untill he's treeing good, he's still learning
put him up on a postive
So would making one tree and leaving be good?
id stop giving him coon to start with

i have a 11 month old walker seen two coon tail's at 4 month's old, got one out of my trunk at around 6 month's. she run's and tree's and had some split tree's. every dog's different some need a coon some don't, this man's dog is treeing he dont need one rite now he need's to figure out tracking and locating. then when he earn's it give him one make him work for it
our dog did that a few times when he was a puppy, the best thing to do if he slicks is leash him up and get him away from that tree ASAP. no petting or talkin unless you're scoldin him or punishin him however you punish your dogs...then when he trees and he's got the coon stay under that tree as long as you feel like it and pet him up good so he knows when he's done a good job and you're pleased and when he's not done good and you're mad
