benching?

how to you guys train your dogs to bench and when do you start training them?

Posted by jon johnson on 06-03-2011 03:52 AM:

I usually try to train my dog 30 to 40 mintues I start with a 5 to 10 mintue walk to work out her engry she had from being in the pen the I put her on the table depending on if it is the first or second time i let my dog get use to the table for 10 mintues the let her down and walk around the table and put her back up and start rubbing her chest tho get her on her toes and and get her use to me holding her tail and head for about 20 mintues the i take her back to the pen and I try to do it onece a day.

I suggest not to hit the dog because I have seen a lot of dog owners hit the dog and they didnt win because they would cower down what I dog is grab her chest not to hard to get her attention back that has worked for me because my dog just recently became a champion

Good luck with your dog!!!

I'm new to bench showing myself...I started training my female when she was five months and when i benched her, she acted like an idiot! My question is how old should you start training them? we have a litter of pups that are three weeks old and i plan on showing the female pup that i keep and I really would like to know is when do you start training them?

I would say the early the better because they would get use to it and get more serious. But it is problaby a good idea to wait to they are out of the puppy stage of life.

I start my dogs out when they are about 12 weeks old. If your just getting started I would suggest getting one that is already bench broke until you yourself become familiar with how the dog is supposed to stand.. Its like when people first start hunting and they buy a puppy having no clue how to train it.. You can learn a lot from a dog that already know what its doing and will be still..

Start at 8 weeks. Short sessions. Position pup and once they hold still, praise. Gradually lengthen time pup holds still, and always end on a good note. Once you both have the standing mastered you can move on to more specific positioning.

10 MONTH OLD PUPPIES

LIZ AND STANLEY, SECOND TIME ON THE BENCH.

KID AND GAGE(redkid), FIRST TIME ON THE BENCH.

IF THEY'RE USED TO PEOPLE PUTTING THEIR HANDS ON THEM, A CHILD COULD PROBABLY DO IT.
