Orange livestock tags?
Are the orange tags from tractor supply ok to use by dogs to keep flies away? They contain permethrin
i use permethrin
i have been useing permethrine liquid on horses and dogs for several years to keep flies. ticks and flees away. dosent do too well on ticks but has done good with fleas and flies. have never had any problems with it even on my wifes small dogs.

tags
I had an Idea yesterday as we were retagging our cattle, instead of cutting up the tags and placing them on the collar why not just use the taggers if you have them and punch a hole with them putting the little button toward the dog and the tag on the outside of the collar. just a thought

I over lap the tag and punch the male button through. I take a Dremel (or you can use a grinder) and file down the point on the male button till it's round and smooth. No glue to come unglued or tie straps to break.
Here is what it looks like:

A few years ago, when the flies were really bad, I put the orange tags all over my kennels. Didn't seem to help one bit.
So far the summers have been drier since that one and flies haven't been bad, so I haven't had to try anything since. I won't use those orange ones again though. I always heard the purple were the best.

purple tags
ive used the purple tags before just cut a slit in the tag and threaded the collar thru, it worked well for ticks, but didnt see much help for the fleas.

If you're having an issue with flies, buy fly predators. A couple months of buying those guys and you'll rarely see a fly.
