Hunt Situation need input

Okay last year I entered a big hunt. Drew out in a 4 dog cast.

First cut 3 dogs struck together and treed together. My dog was split right handed. Scored there tree and they had a coon, then scored mine and it was a circle tree.

Next cut two dogs strike right in front of us and tree in about 2 minutes and mine and another are way deeper and are both struck in.

Get to the two dogs and they have a opossume and are scratched because it was a Grand Nite cast.

Now here's where it gets tricky. We were way back in this woods probably a mile from out original turn out and the judge (owner of the scratched dog) and the other guy that was scratched wanted to go back to the truck. He asked if me or the other guy cared if the non-hunting guide finished judgeing the cast. i didn't really have a problem with it and neither did the other guy.

So out dogs were both split treed a few hundred yards appart and they both had a coon.

At was sitting at 25+ 50+ for the first coon and 50+ and 125+ for the second so he had 250+

I was sitting at 25+ 125+ 150+

We re-casted them in there again and I had first strike and the other guy had 75 strike. I treed for 125 and with 30 seconds on my tree his dog was treed for 75.

Now when we got in there it was a huge bank probably 15 to 20 feet and my dog was on top of the bank on a huge oak tree and his dog was at the bottom on a small tree. We agreed they weren't touching and began shinning them. I found a litter of kits up my tree and the other dogs tree was looking slick.

The other guy persuaded the judge that most likely a kitten jumped from the small tree into the bigger tree. i said no way and the jusge went ahead and plussed him up also.

That cost me the win and kept me fromgetting in the final 16 of a big hunt.

How should this situation have been handled?

Nothing to be done about it. Sometimes your the windshield and sometimes your the bug.

As usual, the root of the problem lies in the notion that you can just play it by whatever rules you all agree to.

It's a UKC hunt, right? So you follow UKC rules and the those rules do not allow a cast to make the decision to assign non-hunting judges duties to a non hunting guide. When your judge quit the cast, the rule says he must pass the card to another cast member or return to the MOH for a judge.

When you skirted the rules by making a non castmember the judge, you made your bed. Now you lay in it.

i say question it and take it back to MOH. Tell the judge and the other guy u will take ur tracking collar off and lay it at the base of the tree and bring the MH back to that tree. If the small tree didnt touch the big tree and you know you were right tell them you want both men scratched and a complaint filed for cheating.

I got thinking about it after we agreed and that's why didn't question it because the cast most likely would have been thrown out.

He most certainly did. He said the non-hunting guide. Therefore he is now the non-hunting guide and judge.

Well hunting/non-hunting, it doesn't matter. Only the MOH can assign a non cast member to judge.
You pass the card to another cast member or return to the MOH, I think those are the only two options.

Make it fact.

Return to MOH

You should have returned to the clubhouse. The MOH is the one that assigns a non-hunting judge. It is plainly written on the back of the score card and in the rule book.

you should have called MOH for permission to use the non hunting judge but if you all agree to score it as seperate trees thats how it should have been scored your ? should have held up when the MOH HEARD THE?

Nothing could be done. Like Jim said MOH has to assign non huntin judge. Cant just make one up. Even if the the MOH had assigned him. Aint a MOH in the country going with a cast members question of the scoring of a tree on a 2 dog cast lol.. Hes sticking with his non huntin judge cause its a judgment call plain and simple.

Yeah IF they did. I'm not calling anyone any names but a story usually has 2 or 3 sides AND the ones that get beat usually leave some out. Not saying thats the case here but thats how it works.

Take the ? back to the MOH becouse it was a tie vote 1 to1 becouse the non-hunting judge does not exsist.

Posted by Hoosier Man1 on 05-27-2011 11:58 PM:

Well I asked them both 2 or 3 times so you're saying that the coon would have had to jump to get from the small tree into my tree right? They agreed everytime. But realistically who is to say they would have said that once the hunt is over and were at the clubhouse discussing it. In all honesty I never thought 375+ had a prayer of getting in so I didn't worry about it. I got home at 6 am the next mourning and woke up to fund out 375 was the cut off so I would say I had that dog beat but I'm not sure because I had no minus and 350 circle.
