cattle tags on your hounds?

I had a man tell me recently that he hangs the purple cattle tags on his beagles to keep the flys and bugs away. Has anyone every heard of doing this or does anyone know if this will hurt your dogs? Thinking about trying it for my coon dogs.

Works great and back it up with Bauer tree and shrub protectant once a month and you will see no fleas, ticks flies etc.. Ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure!

Be careful when you have more than one dog in a pen together they'll try to gnaw on em.

I just started using them my self but I don't put them on the dog. I zip tie them to the top bar in the kennel, one on each panel and use the spray haven't seen a fly sence.

I have been a firm believer in these tags (I use the orange ear tags from TSC) until this year. In heavy tick areas around here in the past buddies would find there dogs with several ticks after a hunt. Using the tags I wouldn't have any on my dogs or maybe one at the most. In the last two weeks I have found three and four at a time on mine. I dusted the kennel houses for additional help. I might double the tags on their collars.

Make sure to be careful using fly tags. I'd use latex gloves when putting them on. They can make some ppl sick.

This is the brand me and my dad use they really work. We live right in the middle of cattle country where love to roam.

Does anyone know the difference in the black tags and the orange tags?

Lee, I am unsure of the black tags, but here is what I posted a couple years back on the orange/purple tags:

Mike, if you look at the MSDS on both the orange tags and the more expensive purple tags, you'll see that the orange tag has a sweet smelling odor along with cancerous ingredients........the purple tags do not.

I looked at both the orange $14.99 for 25 tags and the purple $29.99 for 20 tags and compared the differences besides the different $$$ cost.

Orange Tag MSDS
http://www.y-tex.com/pdfs/msds/MSDS...0Plus%20Tag.PDF

Purple Tags MSDS
http://www.y-tex.com/pdfs/msds/MSDS%20PYthon%20tag.PDF

Just something to think about.

Lee, I looked at the PDF's from my quote above from thread I posted back in 2009 and see that the MSDS have been revised since my orginal posting and the Orange tags do not list any carcinogens.

Thanks Drew

The use the purple ones when running them. I keep one year round on my yellow lab as it keeps him from getting eat up with flies.......something about yellow dogs and flies, LOL.

Here is what it looks like:

Randy you might try the purple ones. I had a cattle man tell me it is the only kind he will use. He gave me one for each of my dogs and I have been sold on them ever since. He allso cyote hunts and has a lot of dogs he uses them on.
Only down side is I had to buy a full box for 3 dogs. LOL
