no offense, but the quote of the vet didnt adress my question. i just want to know if it could possibly rupture or cause serious complications for the female when giving birth.

there are reasons i will not breed a dog, but having a imbilical hernia is not one of them.

like i said if its not really big then it will be ok, but if its pretty good sized then tehres a chance of a rupture.

np. i had a few of tehm that had them. they were small and they were fine to be bred. i had one with a huge one and i didnt want to chance it and i sold her. but i told teh guy that if he wanted to, then he could breed to my dog cutter, but i told him i wasnt sure if she could be bred because of that large of hernia. he never has bred her yet. that was 3 years ago.

Its a very easy fix so take her and get it fixed. No it wont hurt anything, and its not a inheirant traight. Call Dr. Howard Mitchel at 1 918 640 6225, sometime when they are puppies you can tape a coin over it for a short time and itll fix its self. Im not a vet but ive raised lots of coondog litters and its just not a problem, like i said just take her to the vet and get it stitched up.

And my question to the vet is why spay them and then sow up the hernia? Why not just sow it up?

rance

I would think if the navel hernia is big enough that there could be a 50-50 chance of pushing intestines thru the weak spot during the last part of pregnancy. From what I researched the problem is the intestines getting pinched and block digestion and back up and cause serious problems.

If it was my dog I would get it fixed before I bred her and let her heal for a year. Hernias can come back. Other than that breed her and let the hair go with the hide. It's your money and time. You can always get another dog if that one dies. Not that big of a deal any way you look at it.

Steve
