OT " Shed Hunting"

SO MUCH Snow here , I took a morning hike snowshoeing in hopes of maybe finding a shed. No doubt about it, deer are yarded.
Got me to thinking on my trek back to the truck. I wonder how many other folks have made a nice find ! Would like to see your " Best Find" recent or old.

I found this shed a few years ago March, while scouting out a new area to drop a few beaver sets. I just started to walk through a small over grown field looked down and WOW!.... My best find to date. Not a monster by any standard. However certainly a nice antler for Massachusetts. I spent many an hour hiking in hopes of finding the other half.

I found this one a few years ago. Never saw the deer that lost it. Unfortunately mice chewed on the tip before I found it.

Wow you have found some very cool sheds! I have seen some good deer living most of my life in IL. I can never find sheds. Maybe I should take my mom with. She found one in the back yard mowing the lawn. Figures! Is now the time to go? Maybe I go too late.

SHEDS

SEEMS LIKE THE BUCKS ARE LOOSING THEM EARLIER EVERY YEAR. FROM NOW ON THROUGH SPRING, AND DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY FALL HAVE BEEN FOUND A YEAR OR MORE LATER. ANYTHING IN OR CLOSE TO THE TIMBER DOESN'T LAST LONG WHEN THE SQUIRRELS FIND UM. I LIKE TO GLASS FIELDS WHERE THE DEER HAVE BEEN FEEDING. I HAVE FOUND MORE OUT IN THE OPEN THAN IN THE TIMBER. WHERE DID YOU LIVE IN ILLINOIS? TAKE CARE AND WILL BE TALKIN TO YA SOON. <v>

ILLINOIS BONE

A COUPLE FUNKY LOOKIN ONES. <v>

I been lucky enough to find a handful of sheds over the years and usually can remember the approximate location. Heck. with the number of sheds you guys find I would be disappointed if I didn't pick up at least three each time out .

Thanks for sharing !

SHEDS

WE USED TO REALLY HUNT THEM PRETTY HARD. MY SON WORKS FOR A BIG FAMILY FARMING OUTFIT AND FINDS A FEW A YR OFF THE TRACTOR.
I HAVEN'T DEER HUNTED IN 2 YRS AND DON'T CHASE THE SHEDS AS HARD EITHER. DID HAVE A REAL GOOD HIDE SEASON THOUGH WITH SOME YOUNG DOGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO HUNTING HARD IN THE SPRING. I GUESS REACHING THE BIG 50 THIS YEAR MAKES A GUY REALIZE YOU CAN'T DO IT ALL AND NEED TO SAVE YOURSELF FOR WHAT YOU HOLD DEAREST I GUESS IS HOW YOU WOULD PUT IT. I'M CONTENT WITH SEEING AND TAKING PICS OF THE GOOD BUCKS WE HAVE AROUND HERE, NOT TO SAY THAT THERE WON'T BE A DAY WHEN I'LL BE HANGING OUT OF A TREE OR ON THE GROUND TRYING TO STICK ONE. <v>

Re: SHEDS

Jodaviess
I lived in Antioch right on the border of WI. Now I live just 10min north in Burlington WI. We are about 30min from Lake Michigan. We talked briefly about breeding my female to Oppy. Which by the way I am really looking forward to this summer. I guess I better get out in the woods during the day shed hunting. Thanks for the tip on looking in the open fields.

I'm no expert, but I've read a little about it and some guys say to look on deer trails where they have to jump or duck a fence or jump a ditch. Sometimes the landing from jumping will jar it enough to knock it loose.

I've also read a lot about guys using retrievers to find sheds. Does anyone on here have a dog trained to find and retrieve sheds?
