Is there a down side to marshall?

I've just about made up my mind on which tracking collar to buy, and I think marshall by far has the best reputation. And i've spent hours and hours reading threads about all the collars. I really can't find anyone saying something negative about marshall. Is there a down side to buying marshall? Have you had a bad experience in the past. So what's your opinion? Do have anything bad to say about marshall? Thanks in advance

Just a side note, I refuse to buy a garmin, it's not even a consideration. So please let's not make this a "you should buy garmin thread".

marshall is best by far

This is kinda like discussing which carbide light is the best.

Before I switched to Garmin, I was running Marshall PowerMax collars and was very satisfied with them.
That said, I'd never go back to using them over a Garmin.

I'm looking for negative feedback on marshall collars from either people still using or used prior to switching to something else. It seems from all that i've read that no one can say anything bad about them. I'm not asking for what you think the best is- that's like asking ford or chevy.

I've never had a bad tracking collar. All of them provide range beyond what most coonhunters will need and they are all suffiently reliable for long term service. I always bought the ones with the best price which definately was not Marshall.

I never had a problem with a Marshall that was not taken care of promptly. The up side is changable AA batteries and the extra light if you want. The down side is I had a harder time guestimating distance with the Marshall than I had with my Tracker Supra. I could guess the range down to 50 yard increments with the Tracker and I would be hard pressed to say I could guess within 100 with the Marshall. I can't say that the Marshall out preformed the Tracker as far as distance. Notice that I am talking about the Supra with the dual antennas, not the single.

Thanks tim, i'm not so worried about distance. Because most of the places I hunt aren't surrounded by roads. So you pretty much just have to walk to the strongest beep.

I've read that wildlife collars have a bad habit of not turning off.
Tracker strikes eat batteries. And feel like a cheap toy.
I don't want a sealed collar.
Marshall has range, lights, dog down feature, and a good reputation for being #1. And I have yet to hear a con other than the price. But i'm a firm believer, that you get what you pay for.

You dont want the tracker striker collars...Im not sure what they are good for, but finding hounds isnt one of them.

I always liked my tracker supra collars.

Marshall makes the best collars, small and powerfull .

I used Marshall and Quick Track collars in the past,got good service out of both.

I ve used a marshall collar and the only down side I could see is that they were so much stronger it made it hard to pin piont your hound you can probaly figure it out after awhile also this was with a wildlife unit p.s. I still use the beep beep tracker also seen to much bull s*** with garmin

As to the problems you have heard about with Wildlife. I have ran Wildlife collars for the last 17 years and never had that problem with them. If you do have any problems with Wildlife they are fast to help and get them fixed and they have a 5 year warrentty on them. In the area I hunt the Wildlife seem to be the strongest collar when compared to the Marshall, Quick Track, and Johnson.

I had 4 Marshall collars and ended up sending 3 of them back for repair at one time or another. 2 of them just got real weak and I was told that it was caused by having the shock collar next to the tracking collar and the shocking collar was burning up the transducer. The other would track perfectly if it was straight up and down, but wouldn't track at all if it were turned left or right on the dog's neck. Marshall, sent me replacements for 2 of them because they were still under warantee, the other I had to pay around $100 to have repaired because the warantee was up. I can't say I got great service out of these collars. I loved the size of the collar, the replaceable batteries, and the power but IMO an ATS or Quick Track collar will give you better service.

how about this? wildlife materials has a small collar that's good for small dogs. does marshall have a small one? this might be irrelevant if you have only big dogs.

I have a Marshall collar. The lighted one. It kept turning itself off. Sent it back and they fixed it. Haven't had any problems since. Battery life wasn't great with the lights on.I got some tracker lights and just use the collar without the lights and put the tracker light on it. Batteries last 10 times longer. I do like the collar. Small and light and can be use with the garmin.

Im a fan of the marshall lighted collars myself. Only downside I can find is the batterys dont last a real long time with the light on. Usually put fresh ones in every 2nd or 3rd hunt to be safe.

Batteries

For the Marshall collars are an added exspense, but every once in a while Mr. David Webb has a bunch of Lithiam Energizer batteries
for sale on the for sale part of this foram ( other ). They are good
batteries. I just got 50 more, tested them all, and never found a
bad one in the lot. I put them in the frigerator untill I need them.
I have heard that they last longer that way.
