Depending what you got now the brightness may be the same but the LED's are usually whiter , battery last longer, no blown bulbs and can be lighter. My 1st was my old Bandit 21 volt battery with a Blazer Pro head (rectangle) ,works good and I still have it. Recently bought a Predator and find myself using it all the time because of convenience and comfort. I stick one of those little LED spotlights in my pocket when I need a lot of light but the Predator takes care of most of it .

I got a Blazer LED Pro Head, the rectangle one, and I like it. I have been wanting to try a G2 but just can't justify spending the extra money it would take. I will probably just stick with my Blazer until it quits on me.

iam not trying to get info on the leds guys i just kinda wondering what everyone thinks , i had a g2 and it was bright and no need for a spotlight , but the design i hated ! i thought i would like it but i wear a bump cap and didnt like the feel of it so had to go back to using a neck strap and i prefer having both hands free , but i didnt like controlling it on the head itself , i sold it to another buddy and he loves it . my old hunting buddy bought the new blazer 5100 led head and its not as bright as the g2 but more convient in my opionion , but its all what one likes , i havent been around the rectangular blazer heads , seems everyone i know is still old school

I like the LED heads... lots of light and burn time. I have a VC Mini Pro which is comparable or better than any available. My question with the LED is whether it hides color variation. There have been several ears, paws, and tails that just didn't show with the LED but was clear as a could be under the old incandescent bulb. I like the LED but the jury hasn't made the final verdict yet.

Posted by Tyler Vaden on 01-22-2011 07:55 PM:

I love the LED will not go back. The longer brun times. The battery life will be 5 times longer you will not need a new battery pack for 20 years in the old day in 5 years it was time for a new one. That is where the money is in the battery and the light people know it. They can not just give you a LED head cause once they do your light is good for 20 years and the sport is not growing who are they going to sell lights to. They use to sell you one every 5 years.

Yes coons are harder to see with the LEDs. You can miss small things because the color of the light. Our eyes are used to the natural colors we see everyday from light given off by the sun. Which is yellow. White light is not a natural light.

Posted by Virgil on 01-22-2011 09:13 PM:

I guess it varies but I see coons better with the LED than a 5100 head. It is mixed with other people though, some see them better with 5100 and others with an LED.

I like the LED because it doesn't glare like a 5100

I know you can get yellow glass for some of the LEDs if that is what you like you can have it all burn time and yellow light.

I use a 28V Bright Eyes belt light with reg. 5100 head. The current LED heads made by the coon hunting vendors out there are no brighter than my 28V with a regular head. I like LED's but I would build my own before I bought one from any of the current makers. My reason is the color LED's they use which are a white/cool blue color. The color is just not ideal for coon hunting. It's not an opinion but a fact that the white light distorts colors and therefore creates a shadow effect. Their are such a thing as warm color LED's why they don't use them I don't know? My only guess as to why they continue using the cool color LED is because they are in fact brighter than the warm color LED's. This lack in light sacrificed for the change in color could be countered by using higher power LED's, drivers and more efficient heat sinking. Meanwhile I'll stick to my regular head or maybe just build my own LED head. I can tell you right now what's being offered isn't the best that's out there.

Someone looking for burn time and that's it, I say go for it. Until they make those changes you aren't gonna see any other positive attributes over a regular head. Current LED heads are a winter time light for sure, shadows and color renders it useless for the spring and summer foliage.

I have to respectfully disagree with just about everything you said there. IMO the white light of the LED's is much better for finding coons in the summer time because the light does not glare off the leaves like a 5100 head does. A 5100 just turns a tree into a bright yellow glare to me, with the LED that doesn't happen.

Same here. Been using a Mini Pro last few months and have noticed that it does change the color some and takes ya a little longer to spot those hard to find coons. Just takes some getting used to I guess....

What I do love is that I don't have to charge the dang thing all the time and it has a really long burn time. It's also lightweight and dosn't blow bulbs (big plus!).

I agree, brighter then my friends G2. I laughed when I read when someone wrote the the LED made their truck lights look dim, well last night I checked to see if my truck was charging because the lights looked dim.
