when to put a male in with a female in heat?

i bought a female on monday, was told up front that she would be in heat by the end of the month. got her to hunt but also to breed to my ntch male. she was bleeding the day i got her...i took her to this old timer i hunt with and he said she wouldn't take a male until she stops bleeding, and that she would probably bleed for a 2-3 more days. so i asked if he thought thursday would be a good day to put him in with her, he said yeah. well checked her tuesday and no blood but she was still dripping. should i wait until tom. or put him in with the female today? and how long should i leave him in there with her..over night, day or two??? any help would be appreciated.

if you own them both and are sure you want pups, just put them together every other day. When she's ready she'll stand, when she's not, she'll let him know.

LET THEM TELL YOU WHEN THEY ARE READY. WHEN THEY LOCK THE FIRST TIME, SKIP A DAY BREED AGAIN, DO THAT UNTIL THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT EACH OTHER.

WE HAVE USED THIS METHOD WITH SID, HE'S BEEN BRED 37 TIMES, MISSED 2 FEMALES. 1 THAT HAD BEEN IN RIGHT AT 3 WEEKS, AND THE OTHER WAS LIKE 10 OR 11 YEARS OLD.

I WOULDNT LEAVE THEM UNSUPERVISED FOR THEIR SAFETY. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

JUST GIVE THEM TIME, THEY WILL HANG WHEN TIMING IS RIGHT.

Have your vet ovulate her; he can tell you the exact day to breed her. Tom

My personal opinion is don't put him in with her and leave him. That's just asking for trouble. When she will stand, Tie her and let him breed her and when they break take him out until you are ready to breed her again. That works best in my experience.

I AGREE WITH JOEY ON THIS SUBJECT! THAT'S HOW I'VE DONE IT AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM GETTING A FEMALE CAUGHT.

went and fed dogs late yesterday afternoon after they had finished eating i put my male in and went and did a few things around the house and in the basement. maybe was gone 10-12 minutes went back and checked they were hooked. went back in for about 15 minutes came back and checked and they were broke up so i took my male out. I will skip today and repeat process on friday.
