Water Pans freezing outdoors

We have an above ground kennel and with the temperatures the only problem we"re running into is the dogs water freezing although we give it to them daily. Does anyone know of any type of heating system that can be used or any tips to resolve this problem.

Electric water pans are great.. around $20 each.. Until then use the flex rubber bowls as you can smack em with a hammer to remove ice, and mix hot water with your hounds feed, so the stay hydrated and get a hot meal with winter. I mix about 2 pints per bowl. Hope this helps.

P.S feed stores as well as wall-mart carry the electric buckets.. and they last quiet a few yrs.

water heaters

I have had about 20 adult dogs give or take for over 10 years. The heating elements in these water bowls usually take 2-3 dollers a day in electric during the winter. That can cost a fortune X20 if you are not careful. I use the plasic water bowls instead of rubber. My dogs for sure the young ones chew the heck out of the rubber and the ice slides out of plastic easier than rubber just bump the bottom when they are upside down.

I like the heated bowls. I pour luke warm water on their feed when I give it to them so they get extra water at feeding time. I was soaking the food but doing that leaves the pans greasy and harder to clean between feedings. They consume all the water that I pour on at feeding time. As cold as it has been here lately rergular water pans freeze over quickly. They need water as much in winter as in summer. The heated bowls allow 24/7 access to water. Worth the investment.

THEY ONLY PULL 60 WATTS PER PAN MINE IS ON GFI AND A STAT THAT TURN OFF WHEN TEMP. GETS ABOVE 32 DEGREE

Doug, where did you get the thermostat. I have one cord running from our barn to kennels with heaters and heated water bowls. Heaters have a thermostat built in, but would be nice to have the power off when it's above freezing and I'm not home to unplug the power.

My heaters had to pull more than 60 watts and they never turned off. I am thinking I need to go to the feed store and do some shoping. Thanks guys you have me all excited now. My wife might be a little pizd off by dark tomorrow. lol...

I feed my dogs twice daily, adding warm water to the feed. The dogs get plenty of water, it eliminates frozen water dishes without the need of electrical heaters.
