HELP- sick dog

my dog has not been eating much for the last 3 days. i noticed the first day he had diarrhea. then the last couple days he would not come out of his house, he would just drink water out of food. he didn't come out at all today, so i drug him out tonight and noticed he was very swelled between his ribs and hip and stomach looks distended. i gave him milk of magnesia an hour ago. any advise?

Sounds like Bloat, run very, very fast to your closest vet ASAP! Bloat will kill a dog in a matter of hours. We lost 1 dog to this and I will never forget how he looked to be 9 weeks pregnant and in such horrid pain, he died within 2 hrs. after finding him, in my arms.

If he's been going downhill for 3 days, it's probably not bloat - from your description, it sounds more like an obstruction - they start out refusing food, and then gradually get more depressed.
Is he a chewer? Has he recently had bones, rawhide, or chewed up something in his run?
Either way, it's a veterinary emergency - get him to a vet ASAP.

i brought him in the house tonight, he is up walking around a little and wags his tail when he sees me, still sweilled and acts tender below his ribs. i'm going to take him to the vet in the morning.

tack i hope not, i read the first sign of twisted gut is lack of blood flow. he is warm and walking, don't know.

I agree but as with anything medical question its hard for anyone to actually tell without seeing him first. It does sound like an obstruction of some sort but this isn't a question that can be answered on this board. Get him to a vet asap, it sounds like he might require surgery. Good luck with your hound, hope he makes a turn around.

Is he vomiting? Vomiting can sometimes indicate a blockage and everything except the diarrhea leads to believe that it is. I'm not sure what the cause of diarrhea? Your best bet is to take him to a vet.

Hmmm... Any blood, did you switch foods? To be honest, like I said it's just a guessing game without seeing him first. Vet is still your best bet.

If that's the case did they check for Blastomycosis? That is a fungus that causes abcesses and lung infections. With the other cases it sounds suspicous.
