Breeds Of Choice

Please post what breed you like. Tell us why you chose this breed. Don't just say they win more. Describe what your choice breed does for you. Please no breed bashing and no bickering just your opinion on your choice.

I choose the Bluetick because I love their looks. I like the colder nose and style of hunting. I like the mouth that most Blues have and the big heart and desire to please.

It' Dad's fault

BLUETICKS BABY!
My Dad bought me my first bluetick on the day I was born. I have never been without a bluetick that wont at least run and tree its own coon since. I have never owned an "OFF COLOR" dog. (Other than some Beagles) I get beat more than I win but always have fun. I had all differant "shades" of blue. I've had some have sounded like Freight Trains while others have sounded like German Shepards. Some hunted out 100 yards while others have gone 2 miles. Some have wanted to please me, some could care less who the heck I was!!! MOST have been very ACCURATE and trash free, but I've also been leading a NITECH cast with 925 plus with 15 min left and took 1st and 1st on possum. If they were perfect we would have nothing to work for. And just maybe we would of already won that "WORLD HUNT" that everyone is talking about on here lately! After 33 yrs thats why I still like 'em................Jon

I hunt walkers, if i was going for looks i would hunt black dogs, i use to hunt black and tans and when i got back into hunting i couldnt find any good ones around, so i started hunting walkers.

REDBONES<REDBONES REDBONES

I hunted walker dogs for 25 years, but the last 10 years RED DOGS only. I like their looks, They are very accurate and most are naturally straight.

I have always been someone who likes to do things a little different than others, step out of the box, away from the norm. Eveyone has a walker, bluetick or english. But how many hunt red dogs.

There is nothing more rewarding than to take a red dog to a hunt and be the only red dog there and walk out with the hardware. And believe me I have done that more than not.

I know a lot of people will not agree but if you go to a hunt with 25 walker dogs,20 english and 15 blueticks and one redbone and win that thing with the red dog to me that is an accomplishment.

I LOVE A NICE REDBONE HOUND< CAUTION THERE ARE A LOT OF THE SAME OL SAME OL COLD NOSED RUN ALL NIGHT NO HUNT REDDOGS SO IF YOU PLAN ON GETTING ONE DO YOUR HOMEWORK BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME GOOD ONES THAT ARE A PLEASURE TO HUNT AND CAN WIN IN ANY COMPANY

english

English is my choice they hunt more that run. they hunt with out a foot race. they are accurate maybe because they move a little slower. and when they have pups know one knows what they are going to look like.

My choice is Blueticks,i hunted all the breeds an chose the Treein Blue line about 24 years ago,an still have them now. They have great personality, love to please, easy starting, house dog mentality. Most of all they have some of the best layup ability and balance that i prefer....Mike Beasley

My hubby grew up hunting Blueticks, so that is where we started.I love Blueticks. I have worked with Walkers and B&Ts. I just feel that the Blue dogs are easier for me to work with. I have Fibromyalgia and the Blueticks just seemed to have a little more sense to not use me for a launching pad, or a drag. I love how they look. I have Aussies too, so I have a thing for blue dogs.

WALKERS I AM NOT COLOR BLIND AND HAVE HUNTED WITH GOOD COONHOUNDS OF ALL BREEDS , BOTTOM LINE FOR ME WAS MY DAD PREFERRED WALKERS AND I HAVE FOUND THAT A WALKER IS JUST FLAT OUT GOING TO GET THE JOB DONE. GOOD OR BAD THEY DO THE JOB AND DO IT QUICK I HAVE SAW THEM DOMINATE TO MANY TIMES IN EVERY TYPE OF TERRAIN AND CONDITIONS FOR MY CHOICE TO BE ANYTHING ELSE.

Curdawgs......yea I know its kinda against the grain, but I like a combo dog to hunt day and night......I also like a accurate one bark tree dog.

Their isn't a Breed I don't Like !!! But I like ALOT of Nose Given from the Bloodhound But You Also Need lots of Drive From the English and Walker Lines All That needs to Be Tied together With a Huge Bawling Mouth and Good Tong on Track From the Blue Lines ...

So I have found That The Very Best of these Breeds Crossed on each other in the Correct Proportions will Produce A Great Hound !!!!!

So "Breed of Choice" For Me "Scrambled Hounds" !! 4 Breeds In One ..

And You Get Something that Looks like This !!!

32% Bloodhound X 18% Bluetick X 25% Treeing Walker X 25% English ..

His Mother is to his left .. She's 50% Treeing Walker (Lotto x Pac Man) X 50% Hunting Bloodhound

I like both Redbones and Blueticks. I like being the off man with the red dog. I like their looks and the sound and the tree. Blues have the nose and can work a bad track. They have a good mouth.

WALKERS

I have nothing against any other breeds, there is good and bad in all but my dad always hunted walkers and had success with them. So I too hunt WALKERS. Black and Tans and Redbones are the best looking, but IMO the Treeing Walker breed has the most desire and most natural ability.

I was raised hunting English and Blueticks...and evena Gascon or two.

I choose to hunt walkers because they seem to have more natural ability, start quicker and easier, and have the traits I like all wrapped in one package. That being said i want a bawl mouth on track and a good locate with a nice chop on tree.

Bluetick

I have hunted walkers and redbones but I have found the perfect fit for me is a good ol blue dog. I love there looks, a bigger blocky headed hound. I like the loud deeper bawl alot of blue dogs have. They are easy and early starters for the most part and are very very eager to please. They are just good all around hounds

Black and Tans here

Seems they are the most consistent in color, like red bones, but allI have delta with seems to be more accurate, good noses ,can work hot,or cold tracks, and love them big long bawls on track, and chop on tree, they also seem to be easier to break off trash. I know they are good and bad in all, and this is mostly opinion.

Bludawgs & Watermellon Wine

Started out lookin for a Reddawg in 1977 but couldn't find any so I got a half English/Bludawg as a booby prize I guess. Found out about these hunts & wanted a registered one so I sold my three grade dawg's so I could buy me them papered models. At 15 I named my first dog with the kennel name, "Treein Blue", knelt beside my bed scratchin my head.

Still had a lil flame for the Reddawgs so We finally got one a while back & a GOOD ONE at that. Unfortunately the 'Ol mity "$$$" came into play & we sold her. I love that lil dawg sum kinda bad!

I've had part of a Plott,3 or 4 Reddawgs,One grade Black & Tan,A grade English female & even a Walker for a while but I prefer the Blue's.

Intelligence personality & serve the purpose I guess? "IF" I'da found me a Reddawg 1st,probably woulda stuck with'um? "Old Dan" & "Lil Ann" had a tremendous way of suckin me rite plum in'ta coonhuntin though as well as a 6 month old lil Red Female named "Robin" the 1st time I ever got to tag along. She treed 3 coon off by herself & I got to shoot all three. I had me a "Robin" & patiently waiting for another.

Not color blind in the slightest cuz like others,I've seen more than my share of good ones of all colors Havin Bludawg's ain't no different than the obsession with Red Fords.....LOL!!

Blue Dogs

Blueticks have been my breed of choice since the early 70's
for their looks , nose, mouth & consistency.

I used to hunt Blueticks (60's and early 70's). After my last Bluetick died I tried to buy me a good bluetick. Could't find anything that wasn't out of my price range. Called an old friend that I had gotten some of my dogs from to see if he knew of any. He asked if I would be interested in a walker, told him the only walker I would even look at would have to be out of FR Banjo caused I had hunted against a couple of them and they were fast, big bawl mouth and tree dogs. Well he had a litter out of Banjo and if I wanted one he would give me one. So since that time 1977 I have hunted Walkers. Most of which have been given to me by friends. I'm just a poor man! LOL!

hunting blueticks, met my wife and she hunts B&ts,we hunt both. The thing is,I LIKE both for honest strike&tree, the nasty terrain around here and thousand yard hikes in to the tree demand honesty.Seen goodones in of other breeds in the hunts though, just likem black&blue.
