Army National Guard

As a National Guard Reservist I would serve onbe weekend a month and 2 weeks per year. I would still have a civilian life but would be serving my nation. National Guard gets to respond not only to national threats but to communities in need from natural occurances such as flood, earthquake, forest fire, etc

2 guys in our Church joined the marines...they came back from boot camp and looked physically more changed than anything or one I have ever seen. These guys were high school football players, both linemen larger bult husky guys...one looked like a wide receiver and the other like a linebacker when they got back...the physical change was remarkable.

Army National Guard HOOAH!!!!!! Best decision i ever made. you get to choose your MOS (military occupational specialty) by what you score on the ASVAB, no other branch does this. Your AIT (advanced individual training) can be turned into college credits, you get $50,000 for college and you never have another medical bill. And as to gettin in shape after Basic Training and AIT you can Sign up for Ranger school, or Airborne school or Air Assault. Now those schools will put you in shape.....You can even be Special Forces/Green Beret, but you go through ranger/airborne school prior to that and i think its the 5th Special Forces group that is a Guard Unit out in the Midwest somewhere....... good luck in your decision............ HOOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps and enjoyed almost every minute of it. There were things I accomplished and people I served with that will always stick with me. I even had both Bushes as commander in chief, one for Desert Storm and one for Iraqi Freedom. I spent half my time some where in the South Pacific and got to see many places I could only have imagined being a boy from Central Ohio. So get in shape and join a branch that offers what you are looking for. For me it was the Corps because at 18 years old I needed a swift kick in the pants and the Corps did just that.

foothills, first and formost i want to say that you are headed in the right direction by even wanting to join the service. it will give a hand up when you do get out and want to go to the ncshp. second of all when you join any service they will HELP you loose as much weight as you want to. third you can join the marines, army , navy, airforce, coast guard, or even the national guard....... but you CAN NOT just join the Navy seals. i was in the marine corps for 4 years (during operation desert shield, and desert storm) i wish to this day that i had stayed in. it is deffinatly a life changing experience. i wish you well in any and all choices you you make. happy new year and God bless you

im not doing this for the money crossbreedcur but understand where your comming from. Im doing this to better my self and hopefully become a nc trooper, and im 18 years old now, and the marines looks like the path, ive always been glad ive been around postive people and not the ones that have all the bad infulnces. and sicnce ive graudated ive been trying to choose what will help me out in the long run and im not the collage person. so this looks like my path.

marines-4yrs
hopefully ncshp- forever

went in when i was fresh outa highschool,my parents didn't even know that i enlisted,i just came home and said i'm leavin for bootcamp in 2 months,my mom said WHAT??gotta a fine education, met some awesome buddie, who i still have contact with even after almost 2 decades of bein done with it,and got a great job out of it,and the MGI bill helped me with some tuetion(sp) you'll love it.plus it gives you a little more grit than most.

Don't look at things as in what will get you in the best shape, decide what you want to do, and go from there. You have to pick a specialty that you like, because once you decide what you are doing, that is what you'll do.

I just got out of the Army, I was an Infantryman, and loved every minute of it.

take your ASVAB and start from there. If you wanna be a trooper then look into the best police unit out there. Talk to some troopers and see what they prefer. I'm sure you will get all kinds of answers. As far as using boot camp to get yourself in shape that all good but its the other four years you have to think about. What I mean is you can go onto any military base and see a bunch of lard A$$e$. Your the only one that will keep you in the shape you need to be in. After that fnd a MOS you will enjoy and learn as much as you can.

One piece of advice, no matter which branch you choose. When you get to boot camp and are filling out your indoc paperwork, make sure, (I MEAN MAKE SURE) you opt for the GI BILL. That is your only chance to get it. If you turn it down, you will never get another shot at it. Even if you dont see college in your future now, you only pay $100 a month for 12 months. When it is all said and done, you will have over $45,000 for college. Thats the best return on your money you will ever see. I was in the Navy and saw 28 different countries, and did a lot of growing up. I recommend that for any young man or woman. I hope my kids follow my footsteps and do the same. It was the best 5 yrs of my life.

Edit** If you do decide on the Navy, Master at Arms is a rating that is like a police office. Make sure you have a school chosen and agreed upon, before you sign up and leave MEPs. Dont let them tell you to just change it after you leave. You have the advantage before you sign up. Once you leave for boot camp, you are obligated for the time you signed for. Dont let them tell you something is not available. Recruiters are like car salesman, they have a quota they need to reach. Most are good guys and want to help you, but dont sign unless its exactly what you want to do. Good Luck!

military

I did 8 years in the Corps and another 8 in the Army, took what I learned in the Corps and taught it to my army brothers.Never regretted a minuete of either decision,in 2005 I went for one hell of a ride aboard an IED,but I'm still here(thank God).My advice to you would be, make your goals reachable and don't stop until you reach them.which ever branch YOU decide on,will be a life changing experience,it's up to you if it's a good or bad experience.Remember being a Marine is not what you do,it's who you are!
