kennel question
has anyone ever used sand for the floor of there dog kennels.
if anyone has dose it work good and dose it hirt the dogs or pups in any way.
concrete or a wooden floor would be the best, not enough money
for that right now.
thanks for any help
Sand is just what it is, dirt. When you put a hound on sand it is great for a week or until it rains and the left over feces and stuff mixes in with the sand. You might as well tie him in the yard, no difference. Have you considered the stall mats at TSC? They are fairly inexpensive , the dog can't dig out and you can wash and clean them easily? Tom

pea gravel
I have one of three kennels pea graveled, the other two concrete. It works ,I have a couple inches of one inch stone under five inches of pea gravel.I think it helps drain water better for my needs. It does suck to shovel when we get like 6"-8" of snow.I try to shovel ASAP so it don't get packed down.Concrete will be a next summer project.
i know of several kennels that have sand floors. they just let things happen. the dog poop drys out and gets worked into the sand and disappears. the dogs walk in it until it gets all mixed together. they seem to get by. it's not what i would do. i use my back yard. mostly grass but the dogs do a coupld of sand pits they like to play in. if they have enough space, dirt or sand is ok. other wise, i'd use something else. i like wood planks maybe the ones used for privacy fences. they're not as strong as deck boards but they don't have to be and they're cheaper too.

He may be ugly but he looks good on the wood.
Iv never used sand but i think it would be a pain to clean pens, breed fleas, etc. I put coal mine belt or horse stall mats in mine and it is easy to keep clean.
