get ya coon tail an play, hide and seek worked well for me. with lots of praise when it finds it on its own.
pup
if it were me i would just learn him to lead load him in and out of dog box so he gets used to being loaded learn him his name and just take him for walks in the woods me myself wouldnt show him a cagedcoon untill its 5 or 6 months old then i wouldnt do it alot when i started pup keep on lead when old dog trees lead him in to tree and see if he will tree on it if he does really praise him do this a few times then let him loose with old dog but i had a black/tan pup i showed 1 gaged coon he ran and treed first night out was 6 mons old jumped on my old dog on tree so he had to go but every pup is differnt and every bodys training method is differnt and these dogs is bred up alot more than the older gen this is just my way good luck with your pup
The part most often passed by when this subject is discussed is woods time. All the other stuff is useless if the pup doesn't get alot of time in the woods. And all of the other stuff can be neglected without any detrimental effect if the pup gets enough woods time.
90% time spent in the timber, 10% eveything else.
Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Kit Carson, they weren't great hunters because anyone taught them to be great hunters, they were great hunters because they lived in the woods.

If you have the room let the pup run free. If you do not have the room take the pup some where safe and let the pup run around for a few hours every day. The pup can not learn any thing sitting in the pen. When I have a litter of pups I let them run free on my farm. When they get to the point were they are terrorizing everything and roaming off. It is time to pen them up and start hunting them. I hope this helps you has done wonders for me.
