Best way to start a hound?

I am lookin at startin a 8 week redbone soon and am looking for what you believe would be the best way to get him the best start. I am sure you get this question all the time but when i did a search i couldn't find anything so if you have any ideas or advice i would greatly appreciate it. Starting for coon. Thanks

The part most often passed by when this subject is discussed is woods time. All the other stuff is useless if the pup doesn't get alot of time in the woods. And all of the other stuff can be neglected without any detrimental effect if the pup gets enough woods time.
90% time spent in the timber, 10% eveything else.

Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Kit Carson, they weren't great hunters because anyone taught them to be great hunters, they were great hunters because they lived in the woods.

I DONT EVEN KNOW THIS MAN BUT HE IS RIGHT WOODS TIME<

IF YOU GIVE THEM WOODS TIME THEY WILL LEARN THE REST>

SQUIRREL HUNT THEM IN THE DAY AND COON AT NIGHT

START THEM IN THE TIMBER EARLY 12 WEEKS OLD

A live one ...yes.

But it is a great time to start imprinting them to associating coon scent with food and making a game of it.
at 7 weeks old, all of my last litter of pups would track coon scent to their feed bowls.

If you have the room let the pup run free. If you do not have the room take the pup some where safe and let the pup run around for a few hours every day. The pup can not learn any thing sitting in the pen. When I have a litter of pups I let them run free on my farm. When they get to the point were they are terrorizing everything and roaming off. It is time to pen them up and start hunting them. I hope this helps you has done wonders for me.
