Black Gold Feed?

Got a new distributer in the area. I haven't seen any BG in this area F/S.
50# selling it for $28.00. Is this the going price for this feed.Location SW Michigan/NW Indiana.

I'm paying $26.33 a bag 50# here in north Missouri

Have you ever considered trying Native Feed By Kent? I feed it and im very pleased with the look and performance in my hounds. It's a little higher than Black Gold but in my opinion Native is the best out there. Slick coats, better performance and less goes out the back end!

24.99 for 50# here in north central WV. I had fed black gold for years, but the price kept going up, and the quality kept going down. I switched to purina in just the last year. 21.99 for 50#. Dogs love it and seem to do excellent on it.

When you buy Black Gold, you are buying the name.

Apparently that is where those extra $4-$6 a bag comes from because the ingredients are the exact same as the other feeds in the $16-$20 a bag range.

We are paying about the same for it here in northeast Missouri and Quincy Il. farm supply. I think the company sets the price for the distributors. Frankly, I think Black Gold is a little high, but I have had such good luck with it, I don't want to switch. I raised a litter of 13 puppies on it and they all were fat and sassy. My old Coon hound, wouldn't eat anything else. He would starve before he would eat any other dog food. I feed it to my little ratties and they have so much energy that it would be really hard for the coyotes to keep up with them. lol

The only thing about Black Gold I don't like is that you can't get a break for buying it in bulk. You have to buy a truck load to get any kind of break in the price. But after begging our local farm supply to carry it it, they found that they have trouble keeping it in as it is the best selling dog food that they have.

I find that my dogs have less stool with it and therefore, less clean up for the Kennel and I don't have to feed as much. I feed my four kennel ratties one scant scoop between the four of them and my two ratties in the house only eat about a half gallon per week or less. But, my new English coonhound is a gluten and he will eat it until it is gone no matter how much you put in front of him. So, he gets about 3 cups per day.

They are all a little on the fat side, but I like it in the winter time. In the summer, we cut them down even a little more. It costs more to feed my dogs than my 14 head of horses.

So, I guess that is enough of a testimonial for Black Gold. We also give our hunting dogs fastrack when they are hunting hard and that keeps their digestive system clean and they absorb all of the nutrients in the dog food and boosts their immune system.

Critter- I'm feeding level 2 which is 26:16 and feeding the puppy feed to my pup which is 30:20. They offer 4 energy levels, Level 1- 24:14, Level 2- 26:16, Level 3- 30:20 & Level 4- 35:25 Super great feed in my opinion.

The only type of Black Gold i pay attention to are the Yellow bag(24/12), Black bag, & Black Gold Premium Puppy

Yellow Bag - $20.95
Black Bag - $21.95

It's been awhile since I've checked the BG Prem. Puppy feed price, but "big a" on the Bluetick board is up at the feed store picking us up a pallet of Yellow bag now, & I'd have to ask him.

We're both unhappily switching from Enhance until we have a chance to hear some opinions on whether the new higher price(lighter bag 40lb) = better quality. BG was the only other feed in the same price range, that we'd both fed in the past & liked.


I would really like to try "Native" but I haven't been able to find it around here, & I hate to start feeding a brand & have to swap feeds again when I can't find it anymore.

im in south eastern ohio black bag is $27 at one dealer and $28 at another. i think the price depends on how much money the dealer wants to make off of every bag. i talked to my dealer and she is making $3 a bag.

I use to feed Black/Gold but got tired of the inconsistency. Find fist sized clumps, kibble & bits mixed in, etc. I switched to Kent Active (Red bag).

I thought about trying Native but gave up on Kent after I had rabbits die and they wouldn't back their feed. I ran and the local feed mill did too.
