Loyall dog food?

I was diamond green bag feeder for close to 20 years. I tried Loyall dog food and man did it open my eyes. Easy clean up musle tone kept real nice and I didn't see dogs break down in the heat ever. Now the price is higher it runs $32 a bag for active dog food and it's a 40 lb bag. I feed half as much as I did Diamond and if you do the math it equals out about the same. Pluss they have a dollor a bag rebate. I have been on their web site and I see alot of bird dog people use it. Does anyone else use Loyall dog food with their hounds?

If you like feeding your dog ground up slaughterhouse waste and corn..it is the right feed for you.

Independent dog food analysts gave it the second lowest rating it could have received.

I won't defend it. That website was interesting! After looking at that wesite 99.9% of the people that feeds dogs on This website feeds a dogfood at their rating of 2 and maybe a 3. My dogs do quite well on it don't know why they just do. I have a theory it's like this I keep my dogs healthy without useing a needle and buster drugs and I do what I can afford and I keep it fair as I can. I like to compete and use any advise I can get to help my kennel. So thank you very much for that website.

That website is just a crock, and has been widely discredited. If you go look around on it, you'll see that the two women that run it have NO knowledge, education, background or training in nutrition whatsoever. They are NOT dog food anylysts, and they form their opinions based solely on the information on the dog food bags....
They are very clearly biased against any type of kibble. I prefer my information to come from science first, hands on experience second, but recommendations from flakes with no real knowledge or experience is right at the bottom of the list!

I have seen the "dog whisperer" mention it.

Also..They go into pretty deep detail to just be taking the info straight off of the bags.

What's wrong...Did they give a poor rating to your choice of dog feed?

BTW..Please give me several links to "credible" sources where it has been discredited.

Actually, I don't feed kibble - haven't for 30years - so their ratings are irrelevant to me. I just prefer facts over opinions. I just went to the side and see it has changed considerably since the last time I was there. However, I had no problem finding this...

Although there are many ways to rate a dog food, we’ve settled on using the only reliable information we feel we can consistently trust.

We read and interpret government-regulated pet food labels. Nothing more. And we do this in two simple steps.

1. We study the ingredients list
2. We estimate the meat content

So, in other words...You weren't being honest when you said they didn't have any knowledge of dog feed and nutrition.

I think you have confused this site with another with a similar name.

BTW...We are still waiting for links and sources where they have been discredited.

You may be right, as it looked considerably different than the last time I was there - now I'll have to go looking! Well, it beats cleaning up the Christmas mess!
However, I will stand by my original statement
They are NOT dog food anylysts, and they form their opinions based solely on the information on the dog food bags....
Not sure I'd be taking nutrition advise from a talk show host, a dentist, and a 'radio and tv personality' vet.

OK, you're right - I did have it confused with this site
http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/about.html
and this site is the one I was making my comments about. My apologies, and I stand corrected.
However, sites such as these are (in general) aimed at the average pet owner, and are not what I would recommend to a serious dog enthusiast.
There are three distinct measures of a dog food or feeding program.
1. The immediate condition of the dog - weight, vitality, stool volume, etc - this is what those dog food sites are most concerned with, but for readers of this forum, this would also include 'performance' values - stamina, recovery, overheating, scenting ability (there's a great article about the influence of dog food on scenting ability in bird dogs that would probably also apply to coonhounds) - the choice of dog food will affect glycogen depletion, the level of anaerobic activity, the develpment of slow twitch vs fast twitch muscles, the growth and repair of muscle tissue are all performance factors. You can weed out the 'fad' experts pretty quick by asking them a question or two about these things.
2. Long term health and condition of the dog - development, lifespan, resistance to disease, fertility, organ function - these factors are only just being given some consideration by dog food manufacturers (note the addition of omega fatty acids, probiotics, glucosamine to the upper level foods now), but have always been a consideration by serious dog folks.
3. Health across generations - serious long term breeders have an interest in the effects of dog food on fertility rates, pre-natal development, congenital defects, post natal development, as well as lifepan, stamina and vitality through multiple generations.
Any serious evaluation of a feeding regime must include all three of these things, so if you are interested in maximizing of your dog's potential through your feeding program, free advice from a dentist about canine nutrition is worth what you pay for it.

switched

I just finished a bag on my black&tan.I couldn't get him to put any weight on after hunting hard with old feed,FROMM. About two weeks ago he started breaking out on his stomach.I thought it was from his straw but now Its gotten worse.I am sure it's from that Loyall food.I bought a bag of Purenia lamb&rice for him yesterday. He put on weight good but his skin could'nt take it.I have two six-month bluetickes that are doing good on the Loyall puppy food so I don't know,I'll keep them two on it till they are ready for adult..I know a lot of bird hunters feed Loyall

I have put 6 different dogs on this feed and never seen anything of it made me think about changing feeds. Low amount of waste and kept my dogs up in weight no matter if it is hot or cold hunted hard or not.

I used to feed Sexton Brothers and thought I didnt have a problem until i tried the Diamond Extreme Athlete.

Feeding Sexton Bros feed, I would have to clean my kennels out daily...4-5 runny nasty, smelly piles a day was the norm.

On Diamond Extreme Athlete there is rarely more than one small, hard, bowel movement each day.

Sext0on brothers is fed by most of the hunters around here and it's the same everywhere..Dogs crap their guts out on that feed.

If you like feeding your dogs corn and chicken feathers, it is the feed for you.

Well bud feed your diamond been there done that. Just wait and see what happens to your dogs in a couple of years when every bag is different same bag on the outside different feed on the inside that is Diamond for ya. Cann't wait to see my dogs start coughing up feathers that way I won't have buy so much straw in the winter to keep them warm. And I hope they get real good at eatting corn so that way I can take them to a corn feild at feeding time and just feed them for free because they like it so much!!!!! Thanks for you advice but anymore is not wanted!!!!!! When you become a big boy and get off the porch to hunt with the big dogs for the night you'll find out it takes alot more then just dog food to win. But, don't worry moma will keep the light on for you and will tuck you in when you get home.

Been feeding it since they started making it...Dogs look good. Heck, look at the pic I posted of a pup raised on it and tell me it doesnt work.

Keep feeding your dog corn, gluten, and chicken feathers and I will feed mine MEAT BASED FEED.

During bear season we hunted 17 days straight. My dogs were cut loose everyday...1 stayed in the woods 3 days straight...Mine ended the season in nearly as good of shape as when they started.
Those fellas feeding their dogs corn and feathers looked like they had been starved and about to drop dead. The lat morning of the season, my dogs hit the back of the dog box ready to go, and my neighbors had to drag their dogs out of their houses.

You talk bug, but your hot air doesn't hide the fact you are feeding your dogs feathers and corn. Feed whatever you want to feed, but at least "man up" and admit it.

The ingredients don't lie.

Truitt i have been feeding the Diamond Extreme Athlete for about a year now and really like it. feed way less, easier clean up and you have seen chic she is hard.i agree the old green bag diamond and there cheeper stuff is very inconsistant and pretty much crap but i think the naturals line and especially the extreme athlete is the way to go with out paying the $40 something a bag for like Native (which is very good feed also). i pay $28 a 40lb bag for the extreme athlete and have been very impressed.

I, too have been feeding Loyall for a couple of years and feel that my dogs do very well on it. The dogs never seem to get fat, have more stamina and take the heat better. Very little mess in kennels and nice hair coats.
Over the years, I have fed Purina, Diamond, Black Gold and have to say that my dogs perform the best when being fed Loyall. I live in West Texas where it will be over 100 degrees most every day in the summer. I hunt these dogs 3-4 mornings a week in temperature from 75-85 for 3-4 hours. I road hunt so the dogs are traveling from 10 to over 20 miles and they are still at a lope when I catch them when the hunt is over.
Adios,
Gary

Loyall

I really like the food quite a bit. I used a few much more expensive foods in the past and Professional is just as good. Really easy clean-up, great coats, clean teeth and very very palatable.

I have no issues with it at all.
