Coonhunting Off A Mule
I WAS WONDERING HOW TO TEACH MY MULE TOO JUMP FENCES
Put it in a small pen with a walk threw gate. Put a piece of pipe across the gate and put it's feed out on the other side of the gate. It will jump over the pipe to get its feed. Start with the pipe about as high as the top of it's legs. After it gets to were it will jump it real easy and not hesitate to do so raise it an inch or two. Just keep raising it as it gets comfortable with the hight. After it is comfortable doing it put a leed on it and have it do it on command. Just start out putting it on leed and tieing it. Put it's feed out, untie it, leed it to the pipe and tell it to jump. Just make sure and not lte it step on the leed and make sure you can give it the slack it needs to make it's jump and not hang up in mid air. Might want to tie the loose end of the rope to something stought so it doesn't drag you to it's feed. If it hits the end of a rope it will learn it has to wait for you to lead it to it's feed.

a good trained mule is worth its weight in gold! good luck
THAT IS THE BEST INFO I HAVE EVER GOT OFF THIS WEB SITE AND IM AM DEAD SERIOUS. I AM GOING TO DO THAT TOMORROW DO YOU THINK THAT SAME THEORY WILL WORK IF I WAS TO BUILD A PEN AROUND HER ROUND BALE
I PAID 50 DOLLARS FOR THIS MULE 2 MONTHS AGO, ALL SHE KNEW HOW TO DO WAS WALK ON A LEED ROPE. I WAS RIDING HER IN 3 WEEKS AND THAT S NO LIE. SHE STILL NEEDS WORK ON HER REINING BUT IVE BEEN HUNTING OFF HER FOR A MONTH NOW, THE VET SAID SHE IS 3 YEARS OLD. MY BUDS CANT BELIEVE THAT WERE PROGRESSING SO FAST. AS FAR AS THE HOUNDS GO SHE LOVES EM THEY WALK ALL UP UNDER HER AND AROUND HER AND NO PROBLEMS. BUT I REALLY WANT TO TEACH HER TO JUMP ON COMMAND, SHE WILL ALREADY JUMP OVER LOGS THAT ARE A FOOT OR SO HIGH WITH ME ON HER BACK. I KNOW WHEN YOU TEACH EM TO JUMP FENCES THAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO PUT A BLANKET OVER THE FENCE AND GET OFF A COURSE BUT NEEDED TO KNOW HOW TO BEGIN THE PROCESS.
always use blanket from the start.. use it over the pipe when u jump it to its feed. that way she will only jump when the blanket is used.if you dont she will jump every fence u put her in. also when you jump a fence use a two dog coupler to pull the top wire down a bit. will make it easy to jump not as likley to get hung up.
WHAT ABOUT NECK REINING, RIGHT NOW SHE IS JUST MOUTH REINING, I HAVE TO PULL ON HER REINS. I WANT HER TO LEARN WHEN SHE FEEL THAT REIN ON HER NECK TO TURN. YALL GOT ANY TIPS ON THAT. ANYWAYS RIDING A MULE BEATS DRIVING TO THE DOGS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK CAUSE I GET TO HEAR THE WHOLE RACE. IVE BEEN MISSING SO MUCH BY JUMPING IN THAT TRUCK AND DRIVING TO THE HOUNDS
