Why Dont Ukc Put On Money Hunts
I KNOW WE HAVE THE PERFORMANCE PROGRAM BUT HOW COME WE DONT HAVE MONEY HUNTS. WITH GAS REACHING 3 DOLLARS A GALLON ITS GETTING HARDER TO DRIVE 50 TO 100 MILES TO GO TO A HUNT AND NOT GET ANYTHING WHEN YOU WIN. I WAS JUST WONDERING AND IF THEY DID WOULD YALL HUNT IN THEM?
UKC does it is called Slam events..

The clubs have to sign up for them when they send in the hunt confirmations. The clubs don't make as much off of these hunts but they are alot of fun. Talk to the local clubs and see if they will have a couple.

OUR PROBLEM AROUND HERE IS NONE OF THE UKC GUYS WANT TO GET IN THE MONEY HUNTS, THEY THINK IS CAUSES PROBLEMS I THINK IT ONLY CAUSES PROBLEMS IF YOU LET IT. I MEAN DONT GO TO A CASINO IF YOU DONT WANT TO LOOSE MONEY, YOU KNOW. THATS WHY I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WERE ANY AROUND HERE IN TEXAS.
I have seen fewer problems at slam events then at the regular hunts. All casts hunt ch rules and most of the dogs that hunt in them are good dogs. If you win your cast you get a place on your dog and you get your entry fee back. If you end up in the top four you can go back out or split. It is not alot but it does help. It is a gamble everytime you go to a hunt if money is involved or not. I would rather have a chance of atleast winning my entry fee back and getting a place on my dog even if I don't make it into the top four.

I've often thought at regular hunts that GRAND CHAMPIONS only should be able to hunt for money. You've already worked thru the system to get to grand and nothing higher to achieve. At the same hunt you would have reg. and champions just the same as it is now working toward Grand so they could hunt the money casts after earning Gr nite Ch. title. Grands could play for money and reg. & ch's would still be supporting the clubs until they titled out.
As it is you don't see many Grands at local club hunts.
The hunt license is already paid and even four dogs at say $25 entry would give you a $100 hunt or close after the $1.50 a dog UKC fee. Same time maybe your kid or buddy could be hunting a reg. or ch. while you have a chance of paying the gas and entries.
UKC hunts are for amateurs (no money involved). If you want to hunt with the Pro's then you will have to hunt in that other registry.

Every UKC club can hold up to 3 money hunts per year. That's an awful lot of money hunts! So the question isn't why don't UKC hold money hunts? The question is why don't the clubs hold money hunts. And the answer is REVENUE.

money hunts
Clubs have a hard enough time staying afloat as it is. Everything cost more these days. IMO you add money and you get more cheating and buddying up, seen it happen. Love what you do and do what you love. We should hunt for honesty and not cash.

I like the idea of Grands being able to compete for a little cash in the regular hunts. We dont have many hunts in my area other than UKC so once a dog is finished he becomes useless as a comp. dog unless you really want to drive alot of miles.

I have a Grand that I hunt in a few money hunts on the Otherside... If there were more Slams close to me I would hunt them also...
Why couldnt a club raise the entry fee to 40 or 50 dollars a dog, pay ukc, pay themselves the usual amount and then what is left split between open and champion 12t place winners, or do so much for nite champion 1st place and open 1st through third place. really alot of options and the higher entry would probably bring better dogs especially if they might go home with a couple hundred bucks?????
As of now, UKC requires the club to choose either a $20 or $30 entry fee for a Slam hunt.
When we were helping run a club in CA some people were saying they'd be more interested in coming if we had money hunts, so we scheduled a Slam Hunt or two every year. I don't think it made much difference overall in average number of entries, but if I remember right our turnout was better with a $20 entry than with a $30 entry.

I think alot of the arguing has to do with peoples egos, the money ain't the problem, all the money does is help you pay for your gas and entry fee. I did like the comment about UKC is for amatures, thats pretty funny I bet that made some people mad.

I dont know the in's and out's of the sanctioned club hunt, but why couldnt a club hold its own money hunt without ukc or any registry involved??
50 dollar entry fee ,club takes percentage pays the rest back to top 5 dogs, or cast winners?
They do. They're called grade money hunts, or big coon (or whatever game) contests.

Some of our local clubs hold $50 entry up to 16 dogs and have a first round and hunt off. It seems to work good. The competition is just a tough in our UKC hunts as it is in the *KC hunts. They are the same dogs most of the time. Just that the ones that tree coons all year long are not put up when the leaves come off. I hunt both and like both. I just don't see the competition level any higher in either one. You can just win with minus or circle in the other one. Same dogs, same handlers, same places, same hunt just shorter.

MOST UKC CLUBS CLOSE TO ME DO NOT HOLD THEM BECAUSE MONEY HUNTS BRING IN PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER. THAT MEANS MORE THAN JUST THE SAME 4 OR 5 CLUB MEMBERS MIGHT SHOW UP. WHICH IN TURN MAKES IT HARDER FOR JOE, BOB, STEVE, AND EARL TO DRAW EACH OTHER EVERY WEEK AND TAKE TURNS MAKING THEIR LATEST TRADE DOG A NITE CH. UKC HUNTS IN THE SOUTH ARE A JOKE THESE DAYS. OLD CODGERS LIKE ME WHO HAVENT LOOKED UP A RULE CHANGE IN 25 YEARS, HUNTING MUTTS SO SORRY THAT IT IS AMAZING THAT THE MAN HUNTING HIM WOULD WASTE AN ENTRY ON HIM, BUT THEN MOST OF THESE OLD BOYS HAVENT TURNED THE ####EATER OUT OVER HALF A DOZEN TIMES SO THEY REALLY HAVE NO CONCEPTION OF HOW WORTHLESS HE REALLY IS.
THEN YOU HAVE THE #1 REASON, AND MY PERSONAL FAVORITE, THE CLUBS DONT MAKE ANY MONEY HOLDING MONEY HUNTS!
BOYS I SAID IT A LONG TIME AGO AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN. ALL I NEED IS A TABLE TO WRITE ON AND A ROOF TO KEEP MY HIND END FROM GETTING WET WHILE I AM FILLING OUT MY ENTRY OR COLLECTING MY WIN SLIP. EVERY BIG CLUB I HAVE EVER BEEN A MEMBER OF WAS 2 OR 3 YOUNG FOLKS BUSTING THEIR ASSES TO KEEP-UP AND PAY FOR A GLORIFIED GENTLEMEN'S CLUB SO OLD DOG TRADERS WHO AIN'T PUT PAID AN ENTRY FEE SINCE WE QUIT HAVING 3 HOUR HUNTS CAN HAVE A PLACE TO DRINK DRINK COFFEE, TELL LIES, AND MAKE **** SURE THE YOUNGER FOLKS THAT ACTUALLY STILL PARTICIPATE BY HUNTING, GUIDING, OR JUDGING ARE NEVER ABLE TO GET ANY KIND OF CHANGE FOR THE BETTER VOTED IN.
THE BEST, MOST WELL-RUN CLUBS I HAVE EVER HUNTED OUT OF WERE RUNNING HUNTS OUT OF OLD GAS STATIONS, WELDING OR MECHANIC'S SHOPS, COMMUNITY CENTERS, VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPOTS, OR A PLAIN OLD METAL STORAGE BUILDING WITH ELECTRICITY.
TELL THE OLD TIMERS LIKE ME TO GET OUT OF THE WAY, AND MOVE OUR OVER THE HILL ASSES DOWN TO THE COFFEE SHOP BEFORE FINDING A GOOD DOG AT A LOCAL UKC HUNT IS AS RARE AS FINDING ONE AT A FLEA MARKET!
Snuff_52. I have never met you that I know of, but what you just said is dead on accurate.
The club I belong to has awsome grounds, a great water pit, a decent building, but we are broke... If I did not know any better I would say you were a member.

Everybody likes to say that money hunts make for alot of cheating. I hunt alot of PKC and it just isnt true. When you draw out those other 3 guys want to win as much as you do they are not gonna jepordize their win by tryn something stupid. A good point was brought up about money hunts bringing in folks from everywhere and the local boys cant draw out together. I know for a fact that stuff goes on i was asked in a ukc hunt one night to "Take it easy I only have one more win to grand and the next time we draw out i will lay back and let you win".
The next excuse is the club doesnt make enough money. I didnt know the cluns were for profit though all the club was gonna do is break even. How do these clubs know they arent gonna make any money if they dont ever try a few money hunts??
Dont get me wrong i hunt UKC also and enjoy hunting the hunts. But once you have made Grand you have no where to go you have maxed out. One thing a can say for PKC they have enough programs to keep you hunting for the life of your hound.
Dont det me wrong im not knocking UKC by any means. It just wrong to say that there are no cheaters in UKC. when we all know there is.. Come on guys try a money hunt every once in awhile. the whole idea of clubs and hunts is to bring more folks to the hunts.
