Any Suggestions????????
I took my hound out for the first time tonight. His voice seems to be hoarsed or raspy for some reason. Ive just owned him a week. Could this just be his mouth, something wrong with his voice, or hoarsness. Any suggestions on anything to do or give him to see if it will help?

Has he been barking in the pen? Could be hoarse if he's been barking alot.

He doesnt bark in the pen or box. It sounded like when he treed that he would choke down or something at certain times.

If the previous owner kept him on a chain that could have done it... cause one of my buddies kept his dogs on a chain an that happened to it.. because it would get excited an start jumping and carrying on trying whenever we would get ready to go hunting..

Kirk
Hello Kirk, sure glad to hear you have gotten yourself another hound.
I have heard that giving them a tablespoon of honey one or twice per day will help with this problem, but I have had no personal experience to confirm such procedure. It would be my bet that if you can keep him quiet for two to three weeks his vocal chords will begin to heal and you should then start hearing his voice come back to close to what it was before this incident. However that being said, his voice may never come back to exactly where it was befor this.
Then again if you have only owned him a week what you are hearing may very well be his natural voice, especially so, if you have been able to keep him quiet during his first week at your house. Generally speaking, most dogs bark quite frequently when they get moved to a new owner. This will usually persist until they get comfortable with their new environment.
